The Bainbridge and Decatur
County Board of Trade and the
Bainbridge Retail Merchants As
sociation has indorsed a bill in
troduced in Congress by Repre
sentative Roberts of Nevada, to
tax the mail order houses of this
country doing an inter-state
business. Bainbridge like other
cities has the mail order crowd
ever present who prefer to send
their money to Chicago and New
York rather than to keep it at
home.
The bill introduced by Mr.
Roberts would place a two per
cent tax on all goods sold by
mail order houses in ocher states
than the state in which the firm
is located. This tax will be col
lected by the federal government
and divided among the states of
the union in propotion to the
amount spent by each state with
mail order houses. This fund
will be used in good road work
in each state.
This bill gives the federal
courts authority to collect this
tax from the mail order houses
and compells them to keep an
accurate and correct record of all
sales. While this will not elimi
nate the mail order house, still it
will be the means of at least re
turning a small per cent of the
money sent out ot each state
“back home”.

Bainbridge vs. Moultrie, May
15th.
This will be the opening game
of the Dixie league in Bainbridge.
Eufaula opens in Dothan on the
same day, and Quitman in Val
dosta.
At a meeting held in Moultrie
on Saturday last the Dixie league
was organized with Bainbridge,
Dothan, Eufaula, Moultrie, Quit-
man and Valdosta as the six
clubs. Plans for the season were
perfected and W. T. Ward of
Dothan was elected president-
secretaiy-treasurer of the league.
Bainbridge has been busy lin
ing up a club for the season.
Fred Glass an outfielder-pitcher
from the Kitty League has been
signed to manage the Bainbridge
club. Glass is an experienced
man m baseball having been in
professional circles for eleven
years. He is a big rangy chap
that has made a mark in profes
sional ball and bids fair to make
a winner for Bainbridge.
Officials of the local club have
been busy rounding up men to
tryout with Bainbridge. A line
has been gotten on some good
fast players and the Bainbridge
team will be in the race from the
very first.
The training season opens here
on May first. At that time about
twenty men will be ordered to
report for practice. From this
bunch manager Glass will select
his team. The boys will be in
action every day down at the ball
park. Several exhibition games
with Quincy will probably be^ar-
ranged.
The fans of Bainbridge are
strong behind the local /club.
They are enthused over the
prospects of professional base
ball. Already plans to win the
opening day attendance trophy
are being made. Bainbridge is
going to turn out and win the
trophy. It is expected that the
neighboring towns will contribute
largely towards landing the cup.
Suitable grounds will be pro
vided for the team. Good sub
stantial grandstands and bleech-
ers will be erected before the
opening day. Bainbridge will
have a park that will compare
favorably with the others in the
circuit.
At a meeting on Monday night
a board of directors and officer
of the club were selected. H. W.
Cassidy is president, Qimby
Melton, secretary, E. F. Vickers,
treasurer, the Board of directors
is composed of J. C. Moore, W.
A. Wheeler, M. E. Nussbaum,
Fred Cohen, S. T. Carter, S. H.
Brantley, and H. E. Hamil.
