I TYPHOID MI
NIM WILL BE USED
Anti-typhoid vaccination will
be more generally used this year
tnrought Georgia and the south
ern states team ever before,
according to the officials of the
Georgia health department.
Anticipating a call from presi
dent Wilson to patrol duty on
the Mexican border, members
of the National Guard of the
state have had themselves vac
cinated extensively, as they
were warned by Adjutant Gene
ral J. Van Holt Nash that they
would be in greater danger of
death from typhoid on the
border than from death by the
Mexican Bullets.
City and county health officers
are laying greater stress on the
on the use of anti-typhoid vac
cination as the surest means of
protection against the dread
disease. Its general use has'
practically eliminated typhoid
from the United States army,
the case rate in the army hav
ing been reduced from 537 per
100,090 to 3 cases per 100,000.
For the further protection
of the public health, including
the dissemination of anti-typhoid
vaccine virus, life insurance
companies have launched a
movement for the state of
Georgia, as well as other south
ern states, to appropriate to the
maintainance of its health de-
parthment, in addition to what
ever amount may now be ap
propriated, a sum equal to the
amount to the amount of taxes
collected annually by the- state
from life insurance companies.
The Southern States Life In
surance Company of Atlanta
which originated and launched
this movement, has presented
the matter to legislators and to
health authorities, both state
and local and it is very proable
that a bill embodying the plan
will be introduced at the next
sessions of the lawmaking bodies
of other states. Governor Harris
of Georgia and Governor Hen
derson of Alabama, as well as
state and local authorities all
over the south, have commend
ed the movement of the South
ern States Life aud will aid in
pushing it wherever possible.
Virginia has a taste
all it’s own!
NOTEs —There are hun
dred* of different brands
of cigarettes on the mar
ket, which Piedmont has
to meet in competition.
Yet, in spite of these hun
dreds of brands, one to
out of every 8 cigarettes
smoked in the United
States is a Piedmont —
America’s biggest-sclliog
cigarette!
Y OU know how it is with ordinary cigarettes.
Most of them taste pretty much alike. But
just you taste a Virginia cigarette. It’s differ
ent. It has "character'7
That’s why Virginia is called “the tobacco
man’s tobacco’*.
The highest-grade Virginia is in Piedmonts—
ALL Virginia! Golden, lively, mellow as
southern sunshine!
Smokers stand by Piedmonts, because Pied
monts give them what only choice Virginia to
bacco can give them —-"character ”!
Ask for Piedmonts—next time!

CLEGG HONORED
The friends of Mr. J. W.
Clegg, a former school teacher
in this county, who taught at
Iron City several years and at
Bethel was recently elected
county school commissioner of
Walton county. Prof. Clegg was
one of the best teachers that
ever worked in Decatur countv
and it was not surprising that
the folks of Walton county will
use his services in this capacity.
He has a number of old pupils
and patrons that will learn of
his election with pleasure.

Ever Salivated by
Calomel? Horrible!
Calomel is quicksilver and
acts like dynamite
on your liver
Calomel loses you^a day! You
know what calomel is. It’s mer
cury; quicksilver. Calomel is
dangerous. It crashes into sour
bile like dynamite, cramping and
sickening you, Calomel attacks
the bones and should never be
taken into your system.
When you feel bilicus, sluggish
constipated and all knocked out
and believe you need a dose of
dangerous calomel just remember-
that your druggist sells for 50
cents a large bottle of Dodson’s
Liver Tone, which is entirely
vegetable and plesant to take
and is a perfect substitute for
calomel. It is gauranteed to start
your liver without stirring you
up inside, and can not salivate.
Don’t take calomel! It makes
you sick the next day; it loses
you a day,s work. Dodson’s
Liver Tone straightens you up
and you feel great. Give it to
the children because it is per
fectly harmless and does not
gripe.
