Morten Turner, repres entative from Brooks county, yes terday made positive announce ment of his candidacy for the speakership of the next house. There has been talk for some time of Mr. Turner’s entering the race and following confer ences with triends he has gone actively into it with their earnest support. Mr. Turner was co-author with Mr. Barfield, of Bibb, of the Tor rens land title registration bill, considered by many one of the most important measures before the legislature this summer. It is known as the Turner-Barfield bill. Mr. Turner has also been particularly interested in good roads problems and has labored unceasingly for a strong state highway commission bill that would enable Georgia to partici pate in the federal good roads fund. He was a member of the last state senate, and both in that body and in the present house, has been an earnest and avowed advocate of the bill to exempt college endowments from taxa tion. This came natural to him as he is a graduate of Emory col lege, at Oxford, and later of the law department of the State un : - versity. In his race for speaker,'Mr. Turner has already received many pledges of support from members who will return to the next house. These, it is stated, represent all sections otthe state coming from north as well as from south Georgia. He an- 1 nour.ces it as Ins purpose to wage an active and vigorous campaign for this position. Mr. Turner is a son of the late Henry G. Turner, of Quitman, well remem bered as one of Georgia’s fore most citizens. NOTICE! To hold “its place in the sun,” is the object of every business in the great fight for industrial and commercial supremacy. To be able to hold “its place in the sun,” is the supreme test of an asphalt roof. It is the sun, not rain or snow, that plays havoc with a roof. If it can resist the drying out process of the sun beating down upon it, day after day, the rain or snow will not affect it except to wash it clean and keep it sanitary. Certain-teed Roofing takes “its place in the sun” and holds it longer than other similar roofing, because it is made of the very best quality roofing felt, thoroughly saturated with the correct blend of soft asphalts, and coated with a blend of harder asphalts. This outer coating keeps the inner saturation soft, and prevents the drying out process so destructive to the ordinary roof. The blend of asphalts used by “The General" is the result of long experience. It produces a roofing more pliable than those which have less saturation, and which are, therefore, harder and drier. At each of the General’s big mills, expert chemists are constantly employed to refine, test and blend the asphalts used; also to experi ment for possible improvements. Their constant endeavor is to make the best roofing still better The quality of CERTAIN-TEED is such that it is guaranteed for 5,10 or 15 years, according >0 thickness (I,2or3ply). Experience proves that it lasts longer. Behind this guarantee is the responsibility of the world’s largest manufac turer of roofings and building papers. General Roofing Manufacturing Compaq World’.
