In order hat you may be moved to make this examination I wish first to show you what faith has to do s 'ith your salvation. Then I ish to give you three tests by hich you may discover whether w nat you have the faith that saves. L Ephesians 2-’8, Paul says: For by race are ye saved thru iith. In Romans 5:12, he says: Be ng therefore justified by faith We have Peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Justifi cation is the first act of God in saving us, “wherein he pardon- erh all our sins and accepteth “ s as r ^hteous in his sight, only or the righteousness of Christ imputed to us and received by Ia 'th alone.” In Galatians 3:18, or ye are sons of God through . aith oi Christ Jesus.” Adoption into the family of God takes P a ce when we are justified. One is the ••jnd the text speaks of and the . er ‘ s the bink chat says “I - c oe\ethat Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he is the Saviour of lost men and I believe he can save me.” But this kind of faith does not save. We come to the second part of our message. I wish to present to you three tests which you can apply to yourselves and discover whether you have the faith that saves. First. He that hath the faith that saves has renounced all faith in himself, and in his own righteousness. We say with the prophet Isaiah (64:6) “But we all are as an unclean thing and all our righteousness as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf and our iniquities like the wind have taken us away We may as well expect to meet God’s requirements of righteous ness with our own self produced righteousness as to meet a note in the bank for ten thousand dollars with a bucket full of dead and moulding leaves. We agree to this when we sing, “Nothing in my hand I bring,” and “My hope is built on noth ing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” £or by grace are ye saved. Read Romans 11:6 “But if -it is by grace, it is no more of works otherwise grace is no more grace.” Second. Saving faith begets great esteem of the person of Jesus Christ. A high esteem of Jesus as the only begotton Son of God, as my Saviour who died to redeem me, and as the Lord of my life who rules with in my heart as well as on high over the universe. Peter, for whom Jesus prayed “That thy faith tail not” said of Jesus (1 Peter 1:8 9,) whom not hav ing seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” And again he said: “To you in deed which believe he is pre cious.” | Third. Saving faith leads to obedience to Christ’s will. There will be a searching of God’s word to find out Christ’s will. There will be prayer for strenght to do that will. There will be a loving response to that will. Put these tests to own self. You must. Nobody else can.
