ALBANY’S NEW HYDRO-ELECTRIC
PLANT STARTS OPERATING MONDAY
WILL DISTRIBUTE POWER FROM
FLINT RIVER DAM TO ALL
SECTONS OF SOUTH
GEORGIA
Albany, July 30.—Power will be
turned on at the new Flint river dam
of the Georgia-Alabama Power Com
pany, two miles above Albany, Mon
day morning, practically bringing to
completion a project that required
an outlay of nearly two million dol
lars.
It will require about one month
longer to put the finishing touches on that has ever been thrown across that
At present the two units to be opera
ted at the new power plant will help
out the old plant on Muckafoonee
creek to supply its customers without
the aid of the steam auxiliary plant.
Later, additional industries and mu
nicipalities will be served. Already
lines are being constructed to supply
Pelham with power, and later Ameri-
cus, Cordele and other cities which
have contracted for power from this
company will be supplied.
The dam which has just been com
pleted in the Flint here is the first

Six Legged Eel Found
In Okefinokee Swamps
Waycross, July 30.—One of the
most curious freaks of nature found
in this section in many a day was
brought to Waycross this morning by
Jessie Crews, a resident of the fam
ous Okefinokee Swamp, and placed on
exhibition. The freak had the form
of an eel and measured three feet
in length. It differed from ordinary
eels in that it possessed three pairs of
legs and was capable of propelling
itself not only in the water but also
on land. The six-legged animal or
reptile, as it may he, was found in Mr.
Crew’s back yard on Cow House Is
land, after a heavy rain yesterday.
The freak has not been named but the
theory has been advanced that it is
the remnant of some prehistoric tribe
of animals.
Same Old Story But a Good One.
Mrs. Mahala Bums, Sananna, Mo.,
relates nn experience, the like of
which has happened in almost every
neighborhood in this country, and has
been told and related by thousands of
others, as follows: “I used a bottle
of Chamberlain’s Colic and Diarrhoea
Remedy about nine years ago and it
cured me of flux (dysentery). I had
another attack of the same complaint
three or four years ago and a few
doses of this remedy cured me. I
have recommended it to dozens of
people since I first used it nnd shall
continue to do so, for I know it is a
quick and positive cure for bowel
troubles."
Two Units To Start
Only two units of what will event
ually be a four-unit power plant will
be started to work Monday it being
estimated that these will take care of
the present demands on the company.
All plants of the Georgia-Alabama
Power Company, including the two
here, one at Fort Gaines and two near
Columbia, Ala., will be tied in to
gether, so that each plant will have
available the hydro-electric supply of
all the others, giving the company
enough horsepower for great indus
trial development for the large terri-
tery which it will serve.
the Amussee creek, near Columbia,
Ala. Next it bought the power plant
of the old Albany Power and Manufac
turing Company on the Kinchafoonee
creek here, acquiring at the same time
the Porter Shoals site on the Flint
River which has just been developed.
Another plant was constructed on
the Pautaula creek at Fort Gaines,
Ga. The company’s combined hold
ings make it second only to the Geor
gia Railway and Power Company, of
Atlanta, in the matter of hydro-elec
tric power generated in this part of
the South.
Work on the Flint River dam here
was begun in the latter yart of 1919.

Waycross, July 36.—That no adap
ted to stock raising is the opinion of
Ware county farmers who have just
completed an inspection tour of South
Georgia investigating farming and
stock raising methods employed by
leading agriculturists and stock men
of this section. The party was com
posed of H. J. Heyde, county agent of
Ware, and eight of the most progres
sive farmers of the county, accom
panied by District Agricultural Agent
Brown and County Agqnt Cleary of
Pierce county.
One of the primary aims of the

Everything for QUALITY

T HAT’S OUR IDEA in making
CAMELS—the Quality Cigarette.
Why, just buy Camels and look at the package!
It’s the best packing science has devised to keep
cigarettes fresh and full flavored for your taste.
Heavy paper outside—secure foil wrapping inside
and the revenue stamp over the,end to seal the pack
age and keep it air-tight.
And note this! There’s nothing flashy about the
Camel package. No extra wrappings that no not
improve the smoke. Not a cent of needless expense
jtiiat must come out of the quality of the tobacco.
Camels wonderful and exclusive Quality wins on
merit alone.
Because, men smoke Camels who want the
taste and fragrance of the finest tobaccos, expertly
blended. Men smoke Camels for Camels smooth,
refreshing mildness and their freedom from ciga-
retty aftertaste.
Camels are made for men who think for them
selves.

and feedstuffs grown in South Georgia
soil and to determine the best and
most profitable pasturage suitable to
this section. The decision was reached
that for all-year pasturage Dallas
grass could not be surpassed for cat
tle grazing, and thj,t cattail millet,
sowed in rows, was the best for hog
pasturage. South Georgia has the ad
vantage over other sections of the
country in that all-year pasturage can
be easily had for grazing live stock
at an expense much lower than any
where else.
Opportunity Is Awaiting
According to Mr. Heyde Georgia’s
possibilities as a cattle raising State
cannot be over-emphasized and when
the people realize the opportunity
that awaits them along these lines
Georgia will forge ahead to the top
ranks in the cattle States of the
Union.
The Wars county delegation went
from Waycross to Thomasville, where
they inspected the stock farm owned
by E. E. Mack. Mr. Mack is one
of the foremost stock raisers of the
South, being the owner of “Bonnie J.”
the prize-winning Hereford bull, and
also of prize-winning Poland China
hogs. From Thomasville the delega
tion went to Cairo, where they inspec
ted the large syrup refinery and stud
ied the grasses of that section. The
party next went to Moultrie and in
spected the meat packing house of
Swift & Co. The last stop was made
at Tifjipn, where they inspected the
Government experiment station.
Heavy rains forced the party to re
turn home before the trip was com
pleted, but not before a fair estimate
of Georgia’s status was gained. They
report that never before did the pros
pects for a bigger agricultural pro
gram seem brighter for this section of
Georgia.
TWICE PROVEN
If yon suffer backache, sleepless
nights, tired, dull days and distress
ing urinary disorders, don’t experi
ment. Read this twice-told testimony.
Its Bainbridge evidence—doubly
proven.
Mrs. W. A. Cooper, 624 Sharp St.,
Bainbridge, says: “My kidneys gave
me a great deal of trouble for some
time. My back was in terrible shape,
and there was a dull nain in the small
of my back. When I bent over or
lifted anything I could hardly get up
again on account of the sharp, pierc
ing pain that would catch me in my
back. Headaches were frequent and
I had dizzy spells and black spots
appeared before my eyes. My kid
neys acted irregularly, too. Doan's
Kidney Pills were recommended to
me and I got a box at the Ehrlich
Drug Co. After I had taken this one
box. I was relieved.”
NEARLY FOUR YEARS LATER,
Mrs. Cooper said: “Doan’s can’t he
beat for kidney trouble, for they have
never failed to help me when I have
used them.”

Thomasville, July 30.—A year ago
when several of the well-known physi
cians here decided to form a radium
institute it was thought that the ven
ture was somewhat of a risk, but to
day it is well established as a most
successful undertaking and one that
has done a wonderful work in curing
the diseases that have long been the
horror of mankind. Many cases of
virulent cancer have been cured com
pletely and patients have come from
many of the nearby counties and been
successfully treated with this great
remedy. Ttiis is the only institute
of its kind in this section, it has
proved a blessing to many in South
Georgia.
Age 147, Wants Work,
Says Idleness Is Bad
Constantinople, July 30.—Zera, the
“human pack horse,” who claims to
be 147 years old and can still carry
200 pounds with ease, attributes his
long life and health to hard work
and proper diet. He has always been
carrier of heavy burdens. His
rules of health are: Hard work, sleep,
cold baths at night, no to bacco, no al
cohol, no coffee, no meat, no oils, no
butter, no drinking water, but plenty
of hot tea, honey sugar cakes, bread
and cheese. Every five years he takes
three months’ rest. He says he
wants work as “idleness will ruin my
health.”
Cause of Appendicitis.
When the bowels are constipated,
the lower bowels or large intentines
become packed with refuse matter,
that is made up largely of germs.
These gierms enter the tvermifbrm
appendix and set up inflammation,
which is commonly known as appen
dicitis. Take Chamberlain’s Tablets
when needed and keep your bowels
regular and you have little to fear
from appendicitis.
