OAK GROVE JOURNAL
DOES J21ZZ PVT THE
SIX IX SYXeOPjiTIOX?
The revival meeting closed Tuesday
night and Hev. George H. Ramsey,
famous evangelist and state corre
sponding secretary of the Georgia
Christian Missionary Society, return
ed to headquarters in Atlanta, leaving
many friends and admirers here. While
here he conducted his sermons in such
genial and impressive manner, as to
interest even the dullest and careless
specimens of manhood, and it is not
unusual to hear him quoted around
here as “a remarkable fellow and an
able minister.” Even though only
seven additions were made during the
aeries of meetings, great crowds had
tho pleasure and opportunity of hear
ing many good biblical subjects dis
cussed and various ecclesiastical ques
tions answered and explained.
Memocrs and observers consider it
the best meeting ever held here and
one of the largest attendants were
had, although, at the beginning, minor
cases of disorder prevailed, but it
did not require an exceeding length
of time for the parson to counsel the
transgressors to submit to order.
Mr. Ramsey's many friends here
wish for him continued success and
unceasing efforts to promote the cause
of Christianity and fulfil the blessed
Master's commands.
Quite a number of people from
Mars Hill were most welcome attend
ants at the meeting, including Mr. and
Mrs. Harmon Harkell, Mr. and Mrs.
C. V. Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Remus Gain-
ous, Misses Ola, Verna and Cleo Har
rell, and Messrs. Iduson Bell and
fflenry Gainous. Mr. C. V. Bell was
kind enough to take charge of the
song service tho latter part of the
meeting, assisted by Misses Verma
und Ola Harrell, of Mars Hill, et. al.
’ Those interested expressed their ap
preciation and wish to compliment
‘ them for their gentacl manner in
which they performed the service and
generous assistance. The church com
mends Mr. Bell, us a remarkable load-
Mrs. Riley Dean, were at church last
week.
Mr. John D. Avery received a se
vere shock Saturday afternoon dur
ing a thunderstorm as a result of a
heavy bolt of lightning, while under
a bam shed. It is to be supposed
that lightning struck a nearby object
which caused him to fall unconscious
for a while. Upon recovery he found
his horse striving to get up by his
side, with blood streaming from her
nose. However, nothing more than
ordinary soreness developed.
The young men of the Delwood com
munity, have organized a Christian
Union prayer service, which meets
every Wednesday night. It is ex
pected to prosper and be recognized
as a worthy institution. New leaders
arc selected at the end of each meet
ing for the next, thereby, giving each
member who cares to participate in
the practice equal rights.
Mr. Harmon Holt has returned from
Meigs, where he has been engaging
in the study of a Singing Teacher’s
preparatory course.
Mr. Paul Salter motored over to
Sale City, Friday on business.
Friends, how about a singing school
during the next few days, while your
children are practically idle. It will
mean much to the progress of the
community, as it is absolutely es-
ntial to it’s welfare and will tend
to develop new ideas and install
broader views in your child’s mind,
regardless of the proffession he
wishes to pursue. Times are hard,
of course, but it will require only a
small amount for each child as we
can secure an instructor at a reason
able price, and you will never regret
it. Then why not have it?
Misses Minnie and Gussie Ash and
I.essie Woodward, of the Faceville
district were pleansant visitors at
ehurch Monday night.
Rev. H. W. Sullivan and others of
the Delwood community attended the
meeting the past week.
Messrs. Harmon Holt, Louie Hays
and Misses Lillian Graham and Myr
tie Thornton attended church last
week.
Mr. David Newsom#, of Hopeful,
visited relatives and friends here Sun
day.
Messrs. Will and Carl Sullivan, Har
mon Holt, Andrew Avery and Ben
Whitley made a business trip to tho
Autry district Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Salter and a
number of others of Bainbridge, at
tended the meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Clevo Boutwell, Mr.
and Mrs. R. W. Dean and Mr. and

A PROBLEM FOR AMERICAN PARENTS
"Dancing to Mozart minuets,
Strauss waltzes and Sousa two-steps
would never lead to the corset-check
room which now holds sway in hotels,
clubs and dance halls. Nor would a
girl who wore corsets in those days
have been dubbed ‘Old Ironsides’ and
left a disconsolate wall-flower in a
comer of the ball-room,” says Mrs.
Marx E. Oberdorfer, National Music
Chairman of the General Federation
of Music Clubs.
The quotation above appears in an
article entitled “Does Jazz Put the
Sin in Syncopation?” written by Mrs.
Oberndorfer in the interest of better
music. This article which appears in
the August number of THE LADIES'
HOME JOURNAL, points out how
music may become an influence for
evil. It directs particular criticism
to jazz.
Offering proof that Jazz produces
a definite demoralizing effect on the
human brain, Mrs. Oberndorfer con
tinues: “Jazz originally was the ac-
compainment of the Voodoo dancer,
stimulating the half-crazed barba
rian to the vilest deeds.”
After pointing’ out the evils created
by Jazz, Mrs. Oberndorfer concludes
with a plea for good music because
of the help and inspiration it can and
will (give. , She says: “The Music
Department of the General Federation
of Music Clubs has taken for its mot
to: ‘To Make Good Music Popular
and Popular Music Good!'”
The article shows how the women
of America can help the club women
carry out this motto in every home
firmly, steadfastly, determinedly, un
til all the music in our land becomes
an influence for good.
Same Old Story But a Good One.
Mrs. Mahala Burns, Sananna, Mo.,'
relates an experience, the like of (

others, as follows: “I used a bottle!
of Chamberlain’s Colic and Diarrhoea
Remedy about nine years ago and it
cured me of flux (dysentery). I had
another attack of the same complaint
three or four years ago and a few
doses of this remedy cured me. I
have recommended it to dozens of
people since I first used it and shall
continue to do so, for I know it is a
quick and' positive cure for bowel
troubles.”
