Three hundred and seventy bills, nearly all local, were passed by by the legislature this year. The great prize fight between Jeff res and Corbet took place at San Francisco Friday night, re sulting in Corbet being knocked out at the tenth round, which he says winds up his career as a prize lighter. Just before the legislature clos ed last week some of its members patted and others enjoyed them selves by cutting tho pigeon’s wing, while a few looked as seri ous as if they were attending a a campmeeting. At the last session of Dawson Superior Court the grand jury re turned every road commissioner in the county and tho town council of Dawsonville. It will take some thing like this to get the roads worked m Lumpkin county. Mr. Earnest Camp, who has been editing the Wiregrass Blade for some time, has resigned. He misrepresented things loo much to make a success in the newspaper business. Maybe now be will find something that will suit him bet ter. Prof. Wilber Colyin has recent ly came into editorial sosponsibil- lty and business management of The Alkahast Magazine published at Atlanta. The professor is an able writer, good manager and this interesting journal is sure to continue prospering. The Senate committee to visit the University and branch colleges is composed of the following com mittee: Messrs. McMichael, Mid- dlebrooks, Parks and Ledford. Committee from the house Messrs. Miller of Muscogee, Chairman; Dunbar of Richmond, MeCurry of Hart, Ridley of Troup, Owen of Pike and Stovall of Chatham. One hundred and seven counties in Georgia show an increase in tax-1 able property this year of over £22,000,000, showing that tho state is in a most prosperous condition. The Georgia legislature just ad journed, appointed a commission, consisting of Ordinary Witzel, of J this county, Hon. W. E. Candler, hoarder | of Blairsvillo, the Commissioner of the Slate Chemist, to “examine into the damage done, and being done to the timber, fruit and agricul tural interest of this section by the smoke and fumes of the Ducktown copper companies roast sheds. - Blue Ridge World. We had the pleasure this week of meeting Mr. L. B. Davis of Augusta, (in., who has been on an outing with other ladies and gen tlemen. The mortgage is still on the farm. The newspapers of Oklahoma are severe on storekeepers who do not advertise properly. Batson, of New Orleans, aged 28, was hanged last week for the murder of six of the Earl fam ily last year. The fruit crop of Georgia has been small this year. Only 1,287 cars of peaches and 4,687 of mcl- hayo been shipped this season. The whipping was authorized by the statue, but was tho result of a lack of judgment on Allngood’s part. Now let Miss DeCriss serve her sentence out.
