M ore Religious 'Thoughts. Ham Wav, (ia., Aug. 20. Mr. Editor: I um alive but run down and at home taking a litllo rest then I am going out to meeting some where. I have been to New Holland— got to be in a prayer meeting ; where they acted rather funny, j Had some good prayers and rends ing and some good talks from men i and women, and I liked it all the : way in that sort of meeting. Some j strange sayings but yon know I always look on the better side and think it is all right. Yes, the writer of this got to! preach for them once, and then i heard the first hollrness sermon I ever hoard from a Baptist eyange- , list, from North Carolina. lie ; preached well, if I am any judge of preaching. If I can’t preach much myself 1 think I can toll when the other fellow does. lie said nothing of railroads, nor col- j leges. Only lie was uneducated and wanted everybody else to go I to school and learn what they | ought to know and t hen they | would be belter prepared to un derstnnd preaching when they hear it. I just had to say, Amen, for 1 knew how he felt without an edu cation, and having to clear his conscience trying to preach. I want to say here that the best qual- fleation to preach is to have reli gion right to start with and then study to show himself. A work ing man of God approved needeth not to be ashamed, and how can a man study the word of God it' he cannot read it ? Say, you know what 1 would do if 1 was just 40 years old and had my experience? 1 would, if noths mg better could be done, work a week and go to school a week and ponder and meditate on what was •learned in the weeks schooling, and then go again and on that way until the English was master ed. 1 at» a thousand limes sorry for I have a lot of children that are being kept out of school. 1 know what it is to be moved by the holy spirit to warn sinners and feed the (lock of God and he destitute of an education. So as to be able to use common lan guage to express and explain thoughts that wo want others to know is a great .blessing. I hope that oyery young man and wo man, boy and girl will strive for a Christian education. Thank God, the Methodists, Baptists and Pres bytorians, as religious denomina tions, have gone to a great ex pense, and also the state of Geor gia, to educate her sons and daughters. My friends, hear tno as your friend, do all you can to get an education and with it be sure to become a Christian, for a man can be a scholar without re ligion, and lie may he a Christian and not a scholar. The first will take a man through the world smoothly, tint niav be lost in the end. The latter will take a man through the world of hardships and suffering and also take him to lieayen in the end. So if you will seek and find both it will make a better time in this and in the oth er world. Say, dear editor, listen to what a friend has said. Say, you who read the Nought, think of what 1 have said and read the Till Chap, of St. Matthew, and do as it says, and then the loth Psalm, uili, help, i pray and hope tor the servants of God to begin to say, stand in the way and see and ask for the old paths which are the rijjlit or good way and walk there in. I am so glad that the gospel of Christ is the power of God un to salvation. Let us preach on ly the gospel of Christ and God's power will be fell. J. N. Austin. Allagoods time’s up as whipping master at the state prison farm. An Augusta paper says there are 2000 loliaug vagrant negroes in that town. When a man shaves off his mus tache he is offened if his friends do not pretend that they hardly recognized him. Can you keep from laughing when yen hear a man who wears a high collar on a hot day criticis ing women for tight lacing. Speaking of the scarcity of girls who know how to keep house, per haps it is due to the fact that there is a lack of young men capable of providing the house. Badly S h alt ered Nerves and Weak Heart. Too Nervous to Sleep or R.est. Dr.Miles’Hcart Cure and Nervine Cured Me. A shattered nervous system nearly always leads to some affection of the heart, espec ially where the patient’s heart is weak from hereditary or other causes. Dr. Miles’ 1 leart Cure is not only a great heart regulator, but it is a blood tonic which speedily corrects and regulates the heart’s action, enriches the blood and improves the circulation. It will build you up just as it did Mr. Crawford whose letter follows, and greatly improve your general health: “I have been so greatly benefited by Dr. Miles’Nervine and 1 leart Cure that I freely recommend them as the best remedies for the diseases they are recommended to cure. •When I began taking these medicines I weighed scarcely 140 pounds, my nerves were badly shattered and my heart troubled me a great deal. I had pain in my left arm and shoulder, had difficulty in sleeping on mv left side, had frequent smothering spells and rny heart would flutter and palpitate. I could eat scarcely any kind of food without suffering great distress, and was so restless and nervous that l slept little night or day. Now I am never bothered with my heart, my nerves are steady as a die, 1 sleep well, eat well and weigh 163 pounds. 1 am happy now and am trying to make back the money 1 spent for doctors who did me no good while I was ill.”—T.
