She Meant Purgatory.
A good story, says the New
York Tribune, is told of a certain
Catholic bishop in the Northwest,
who, while examining a class for
confirmation, asked one of the lit
tle girls the question, “What is
mat rimony?”
“That's where we go to suffer
for our sins!” was the reply of the
child, who had evidently been
carefully prepared for the exami
nation. Her mother, greatly agi
tated, began to rebuke her: “You
mean purgatory, Kitty; toll the
Hisliop you mean purgatory,” and
the child began to cry.
“Don't cry, Kitty,” said the
bishop, soothingly, “you are near
er right than your mother subs
peels.”

The champion mosquitoes of the
world, according to a traveler, are
those of Taylor’s Island, on tlie
Choptank river, Maryland. They
are often half an inch long and arc
perfectly black, with white feet.
They do not sing and their bite is
likethe sting of a bee. People who
are obliged to go out of doors wear a
protection, n hoop on their head,
from which hangs a netting, which
is belted to the waist. They cur
ry about them a piece of fat pork,
which when applied to a sting or
bite acts as an antidote. The Chop-
tank river region is the great
market garden of Baltimore,
Philadelphia and other Eastern
cities, and one theory to account
for the remarkable size of the mos
quitoes is that they feed on the
splendid fruits and vegetables
which grow so luxuriantly there
and are thus fattened to a far great
er degree than their brothers who
live in loss favorable localities.

“No, ma’m you have evidently

“What’s that ? Let me have the

“But there arc certain prelimis

“I’ll pay for those too.”
“You don’t understand me,

I don’t you?”
“Who said 1 did ?”
“I inferred you did. At least
i you want a license to be married,
j don’t you ?”
“Well, 1 don't want to wrap up
nails in it.”
“That’s just what I thought.
And now giye me the names.”
“What’s that! Whose names!”
“Yours and the gentleman’s.”
“Say, haye I got to give the
names!”
“Certainly; and the age.”
My age! A'ou want my age!
My age and the names too?”
“Of course.”
“Well, you don’t got them. If
there’s going to be any cheap no

that it’s all off. Do you hear me,

A Merchant Cured After Having Given Up Hope.
Foley & Co., Chicago.
Gentlemen:—I was afflicted with Kidney and
Bladder trouble for six years and had tried numerous
preparations without getting any relief and had given
up hope of ever being cured when FOLEY’S KIDNEY
CURE was recommended to me. After using one
bottle 1 could feel the effect of it, and after taking
six fifty-cent bottles, I was cured of Kidney and
Bladder trouble and have not felt so well for the past
twenty years and I owe it to FOLEY’S KIDNEY
