Editor'Nugget 1 :
In your last issue I saw an ar
ticle signed “Voter” in regard to
having our next election held with-,
out the use of whiskey, and in the
same, lie asked for a rememedy.
I give you below a good remedy
and hope that it will be adopted.
I think that this is the proper
thing to be done, and I for one,
am ready to support it .

Negroes CITY DIRECTORY
To every southerner it is a well-
known fact that the impostqi'
who goes down among the ncfjrp
cabins with a implexion bleaeji
for sale always reaps a harvest,
says the New York American. In
many southern cities are local or
dinances for the prosecution of
such men to protect the negroes
from themselves. To Jiavo the
skin of a white man or woman is
a thing infinitely to be desired.
Now there conies forth a scien
tist of Philadelphia, a man of
highest reputation, whose state
ments receive the support of
equally reputable scientists of
this city, declaring that with the
use of the Crook’s tube, or X-ray,
lie can turn the complexion of the,
Blackest man to a beautiful, soft,
.creamy white color.
The claimant of the startling
discovery that the negro can be
made white is none other than Dr.
Henry K. Pancoast, of the Uni
versity Hospital of Philadelphia.
He is an X-ray export. 'He has
used it in the treatment of a cancer'
and of skin disease with a success
that has been universally record-
-ed in medical journals.
On the desk of Dr, Pancoast is!
1
to be found numerous photographs!
of-negroes— photographs .without
the slightest attempts at .coloring
—(revealing a rejnarkalile con-;
dition of the negro’s skin. I11
some cases large patches of the skin
show white. I11 others small
patches are shown. In two cases
Dr. Pancoast avers that, with the
aid of the mysterious tube, he
has completely changed the
patient’s complexion, making, in
short, white out of black.
