The “'Simple Liifc.”
We are hearing » greats deal
nowadays about the simple life,
and we need to hear a good deal
more. But we women all know,
don't we? that it is one thing to
establish an ideal and* another to
live up to it in detail. Here, as
ever; lie* our st re myth and our
weakness. It is we, after all, not
the good Paster Wagner nor any
other man, who have to work o*U6
our own salvation from the fet
tering trifles that hold us back
from our highest usefulness and
happiness. We have to call wpon
the strength'of our minds to or-
dter tfhese things so that neither
they shall 1 suffer nor the great
things, but so that, they, being in
order and fit subordination, hha 11
add their beauty to life. To do it
we* need! to take the broad view.
Bflowever busy our hands may be
with littlb things, our minds must
see them in the large, in the full'
sum of tfteir little relationships.
Wo need* t)<v list the life of eternal
Bpace in upon the confusing clut
ter that distracts us. In that il
lumination we shall, by slow de
grees, find a place for every gen
uine duty, put it in its place and
with a firm hand keep it there.-
We shall see at once that we need
a 1 lsttge' supply of patieuce-*-tliat
we cannot expeet to learn how to
W’ve nwtrl jurat before we die, if
hlleubut that by being stendy
and still we can move on and up a
little at a time. The comfort will
be that we shall move others up
with us—Those We Love Best.
Those We Love Next Best and
Those of Whom We Are a Part.
We shall see the righteousness of
play afri'd rest and take our share

share—With it* thankful heart.

Inventor Thomas A Eidson has
tabled the problem^ “\Vby do
hot ffieri go to cbuuch'?” He
thinks it Is largely because hus
bands havb to stay at. home Sun
day mornings and mind the ba-
,bies while their drives go to church.
To meet this situation Mr. Eidson
has devised a system of checking
babies in the church basement,
pretty much as parcels are check
ed in a radway depot. Under this
system, Mr. Eidson says, both
husbands and wives can atteud the
services. —Savuunuli Nows,

“Now, children,” said the teach -
er T as she distributed the flower
seeds among the little ones, “J
want you to plant these in pots,
and when they begin to grow don’t
fail to tell* me. DU give a prize
to the one who reports first.”
At 5* o’clock one morning a few
weeks later the family with whom
the teacher boarded was aroused
by a loud ringing at the door bell.
The man of the house got out of
bod, thrust his feet iTrto a pair of
slippers and went to the front door.
Who’s there?” he asked.
“Tommy Tucker.”’
“What do you want'?”
“I want to see Miss Adair.”
“What’s the matter'!' What do
you want of her ?'”’
“1 want to tell 1 ’or something.”
“Won’t it keep till daylight?
Can’t I tell her myself '?”
“No. It’s somethin’ she wanted
to know just as soon as rt happen
ed, ami! nolwaly else can’t do it”
Tommy was admitted and shown
into the p»lor.
Miss Adair was awakened and
informed that a boy wanted to see
her on business that admitted of
no delay.
She dressed hurriedly and came
down.
“Why, Tommy?’ she said,
what on earth' brings you here so
earl'y?’ What has happened?”
“Teacher, mines growed.”—

Difference Between art* Editor
and Lawyer.
City Court has been in session ,
at Roidsville this week and we
noticed that the lawyers while
making their speeches would call
a man a Mar, scoundrel,- villhia or
thief and no one seemed to-care or
make any complaint. FMt if the
newspaper ttthri' m a mild 1 way
duns a fellow who is owing him a
little advertising bill, or if the
editor intimates that a certain one
of his subscribers is dishonest and
untruthful, there is a libel suit or
a dead 1 editor We have thought
over the mutter a great deal* this
week,-and have come to the con
clusion that people believe what
the editor says,- but what a lawyer
says cuts'no ftgnro. N*ow boys,- if
yott 1 hoar a fellow cursing the edi
