Marshal Grizzle visited three
distilleries last week—two in
Dawson and one in White. The
one in White, found near the was
Logan place, held about one hun
dred gallons. Two men were at
this one but both got away. \
There was a time when a lot of
the voters of Lumpkin county
could be coaxed to the polls with
a bottle of liquor aud voted, but
we are glad to say that but few of
her people can be done this way
now, causing the county to bo
i more prosperous.
A certain father in Dahlonega
made k case against his boy one
day last week and the next visited
Tan Yard Chapel and talked in
tongues. And of nights while the
father iB jabbering his boy is lying
out with no welcome home. If
this is religion wo don’t want any
of it.
Prof. Barnes, who was elected
to take charge of the dormitory ar
rived on Monday afternoon, and
in less than an hour ho was at the
college donned in a pair of over
alls, put the gasoline engine to
running and hud everything else
on the move. The Professor is a
hustler aud is the right man in tho
right place.
We made mention last week of
some rock throwing up in Cano
Creek district. It has all been
settled. The parents of the boys
whipped the participants aud
broke the pistol into many pieces.
This was the proper way and will
save a law suit and much trouble.
If all parents would teach their
boys this kind of a lesson when
they do such mischief it would re
sult in short courts aud much less
■trouble.
A very effective meeting was be
gun at Deck’s Chapel on Friday
of last week and was .continued
through Sunday night. But 6w-

Jackson, can obtain a tent in
which to hold services, which will
probably be the fourth Sunday in
September. At that time every
one is invited to attend and partic

Many people from this place at
tended Lumpkin cainpmeetiug last
Sunday. We didn’t attend but tbe
meeting passed off just as nicely
as if we bad boon present. There
was some drinking as usual, 'but
not enough to cause any big dis
turbance. The liquor in two For
syth county men caused them to
hayo a fight, but they both get
away. A boy was found drunk
but the guard was told by the min
ister to let him go this time and to
hunt up the one from whom lie
got the liquor and be certain to ar
rest him. People were there in
large numbers from adjoining
counties, and a number of able
preachers who used their best ef
forts to throw more light on the
religious cause, causing shouting
and singing in a manner that ev
erybody in hearing could thor
oughly understand.

Mr. Colqwil Head sold his other
mule to a man up in White. Now

son county, were tried by Judge
Worley on Monday charged with
illicit distilling. Henry was bound
over ami David acquitted.
Rev. T. E. Elgin and family
left last Monday for a little visit
near the Blue Ridge. Mr. Elgin
will preach in revival services du

Two males and a female of the
Pentecostal variety walked from
Duhlonoga to Lumpkin campmoet-
ing and back. Here they saw many
seeking the only true religion and
making an effort to get to heaven
without getting down on their all-
fours jabbering and traveling
backwards.

The Lumpkin County Declama
tion conveues hero tomorrow the
3rd beginning tit 10 u. m. The
program will embrace tbe follow
ing: . Declamation by both girls
tiDd boys, addition, spelling and
singing contests, aud foot racing.
Lot everybody come and we will
have some speaking that will suit
the occasion, aud the day will be
a groat one for the schools of Ibis
county.
On Monday the Sheriff of Un
ion county and posse of five made
an effort to arrest Juan Gurley
over m Gaddistown, but neither
posse nor bullets could stop him.
Seyeral shots were fired as he ran
through tbe woods. Later while
Milford Hite and others were sit
ting in his porch a shot was ffreil
from the woods striking tho wiu-
dow or door casing near Ilito.
The defendant is wanted now for
shooting Hite and his sou some
time ago.
Rev. .T. W. Rider is moving
back to his country home up in
Hightower district.
Mr. Tom Lavender has gone to
Atlanta to accopt a job with the
Central Railroad of Georgia.
After the rain last Wednesday
Mr. C. R. Arnold picked up a nice
little nugget on the public square
here.

.Last week J. It. Morris, of At
lanta, came up with a lot of rugs

amount.
Farmers anil ladies will find the
prerniun list for the coming county
fair very interesting. Later on
we will likely give the complete
