Soon after getting well started
and more popular Mr. Davis told
his congregation for all to come
out the next night, that he bad
something to tell them that would
be very important to the people of
Dahlonega. They went, when he
broke the news to them, that with
the proper cooperation a certain
wealthy lady would furnish a big
sum of money to build a large
temple here where people of all
denominations could meet and
serve the Lord, which would cause
thousands of persons to ilock to
Dahlonega, and he would remain
here six months to help.
It took like hot cakes with
some, who began soliciting sub
scriptions to tuya site for this
great place to worship at. A nice
spot, not far from the Pentecost
church, belonging to Mrs. J. E.
McGee, containing four acres, has
been selected and n price of four
hundred dollars. If built tobacco
and snuff users will be welcomed

Some days ago a letter came
through the mail from a gentle
man in a city who had seen the
Nugget, addressed to tho Pastor of
the Dahlonega Baptist church. As
this church has no Pastor the Post
Master put the letter into the
box of Mr. J. S. Speer, one of its
members. He opened and found
it a letter of warning, saying that
Roy Ii. Davis, who it was under
stood was preaching here, had a
dark record as a miuister, or words
to this effect.
Not knowing the writer Mr.
peer wrote a letter of enquiry to
one of the head members of the
Baptist denomination in Atlanta.
His reply was that the gentleman
was reliable, and whatever infor
mation be furnished would be cor
rect.
So Mr. Speer received a regis
tered package giving a full history
for a number of years back of the
mau here who is carrying a bible,
hymn book and a little bottle of
healing oil, and has been travel
ing through Texas, Florida and
parts of Georgia, using the pulpit
as a shield in acts contrary to both
the laws of God and man, for
years, according to letters, affida
vits and a copy of a bill of indict
ment returned against him, indu
ing a church letter he forged on a
country Baptist church purporting
to have been located down in otir
state, when it turned out that there
was no s ieh church in existance.
The Baptists where Mr. Davis got
in his deceiving work, have gone
to a lot of trouble and expense in
getting this man’s record. The
most important matter is mi.uia-
graphed, including a Texas news
paper containing his picture and
an account of his trial. When Da
vis first came to Lavouia, Ga ,
from Texas, he- went by the name
of J . R. Crawford. And at Ac-
worth as l.ou Davis. And at .oth
er places tacked Dr. on to Roy E.
Davis. He is charged with desert
ing a wife and !i children in Tex
as, and in some of the Georgia
towns and cities, with having a
red headed woman with him. Was

Important Notice.
The Stale Board of Missions
through its Ex. Com. regrets
to say that in its best judg
ment Mr. Roy E. Davis, now
operating in and around Jack
sonville and posing as it Bap
tist preacher, is not worthy ot
the confidence of the brother
hood, nor the public at large.
A thorough investigation has
been mad-* and from the
many personal letters and af
fidavits in hand from trnst-
wotthy brethren it is evident
that'Mr. Davis is an excluded
member of a Baptist chuieh,
and that he has a long and
black record behind him.

Acting Sec’y.
Now as we have said, the above
are only synopsis of the charges
against Mr. Davis. The Baptists
away from here in possession of
this information sent it for a good
purpose. If incorrect he has his
recourse in law.
Let Mr. Davis first clear himself
of these charges, if he can. Don't
you know this lady, who is work
ing for a good cause is not going to
contribute any of her money until
it is done, matters not how much
wealth she possesses? Her object
is not to reform preachers, especial
ly when they have been in the
ministry twelve or fifteen years.
They know better and have no
excuse for backsliding arid would
not be a proper person to guide
and direct a thing of this kind be
cause it would be a grand imposi
tion on the Lord. Now under
stand us—if Mr Davis does not
clear up these charges.

We are glad to learn that Prof.
Angelberg, who lias been sick
for some two or three weeks, is
improving.
Last Saturday was a dark day,
causing Uncle John Davis, of the
light plant, to keep the current on
so we could have lights and work
until 1:30, when he shut down to
come to town to get him a piece
tobacco to do him through Sunday,
it was so dark that we fell
off of our office stool. They tell us
that there is a brighter home on
high, yet we had rather stay here
and use Uncle Johns lights. We
should learn to appreciate, and
not be too ready to cut off when
the weather is dry ttud the lights
dim.
Mr. Geo. J. Adams, of Kansas,
who recently purchased the Cal

in this county, lias certainly souie-

and farming. It consists of more
than a thousand acres, and one
on the property recently valued
it at forty or fifty thousand dol
lars. It was sold at a Receivers
Sale. It belonged to a foreign
company. Many of the members
have passed to the beyond. The
Calhoun vein, which is said to be
rich enough to pay for the entire
property, has been opened up for
years. One of tho owners would
not agree for it to he worked, and
it has remained idle all these long
years doing no one any good. Now
[that it has changed hands we hope
to see operations soon begin down
' that way.
