Among the strange things to be
seen on the the Blue Ridge is at
Neel’s Gap, where a rattlesnake
and a little mouse occupy the same
box and both alive. And some
time the mouse runs up on its
companion’s bend without being
harmed. The sight causes those
who are afraid of rattlers, al-
tbouugh it is safely imprisoned, to
take a dram, if they have it,- re
gardless.of the prohibition lawwe
are living under. And another one
or two before leaving the high
ridge drives away the blues aud
causes the road to seem shorter.
Now back to the beginning. Once
upon a time a lion and Iamb would
take a nap together. Now that
we do not have either, the mouse
aud rattlesnake have to be taken
as substitutes.
Neatly every time Dr. Grant
comes up to Dahlouega front- At
lanta be says it rains. Last week
he could have visited u@ and en
joyed himself The weather was
fine. Cool early in the morning
with frost and once or twice ice,
but grew warm enough by noon
for the fall butterflies to come out
and take a little exercise.
New poles are being put in on
the electric light line and every
thing being arranged for plenty of
power to give Dahlouega good
service. Nothing will prevent it
continuing except extreme cold
weather freezing the water so ns
to'ktop’ the wheel. This can be
iit-oiclcd by the temporary use cf
btiearn,-which we suppose will Lie
pfbvidcd for in' due time.
At the recent Mayor’s contest in
Dahlonega it u'as clearly shown
what it takes to make a legal vo
ter in said election in this place
Must be 21 years of age, a citizen
of the town six months, county
six months and state twelve
months. AH state and county tax
es must have been paid each year
since becoming of age or becom
ing a citizen, six months previous
to said Mayor's election except the
one in which the election is hold—
county registration not considered.
J Only City registration. Then be-
! fore registering in the latter, all
city taxes—dogs, household and
kitchen fu itr.r , -treet taxes, etc.,
| must be paid up to tbe time of reg
istering, except the year in which
the election is held. In other
words, if ti person wishes to lake
any part in the management of the
affairs of the City of Dahlouega he
or she must help pay the expenses
of running the town. There are
several who ln.ve been voting in
the Cityjtlection and arc in de*
fault of part of the taxes named.
Pay up. Git straight on the books
and pievent any more contests.
They are troublesome and expen
sive, besides creating hard feel
ings among our citizens, which
somo times lasts a life time. Dah
lonega, or its people, would be
more harmonious nnd prosperous
if all such confusion was avoided.
Every now and then in “mould
ing” matter and 110 copy before us
while setting type we use the let
ter *‘t” at the latter part of attack
instead of u k” which we never no
tice till the paper is printed anil we
sit down to study wisdom. Some
years ago a former President
adopted aslioiter method of spell
ing, one of the words we remember
was though—leaving off the last
two letters, which was carried out
by others for a whilo. So if wise
men spell it “tho”, being n drop of
throe letters we have a perfect
right to change just one letter in
the word attack.

Mr. Graham Johnson, of Atlan-
ti, paid Dahlonega his first visit
list ueek. Going on up to the
Woody Gap and upon his return
called on the editor of the Nugget.
He took some pictures on the
mountain and was so well pleased
with what he saw in a few hours
that he is coming back again to
make a more extended visit. Mr.
Johnson was in the late war. Held
the position of First Lieutenant,
and during his rounds dropped in
to China, where he saw and learn
ed enough to be opposed to send
ing missionary workers to that
country. Our visitor said he met
a prominent Chinaman while there
wlra talked English well, stat
ing that some of his people took
on to the Christian religion, but as
soon as the missionaries departed
the converts went back to their
custom of living. They are just
like wild turkeys. Can’t change
them. You may take wild turkey
eggs and set them under a hen.
When they grow old enough to
travel they are off to tho woods.
Religion here in our home country
is only temporary with many of
the natives who are surrounded by
preachers. When a Christmas
