To go beyond the narrow confines of the 3 R’s, and as such we hope to contribute our portion to this cause. There is a time for everything, we are taught by the Scriptures, and we cannot conceive of a more appropri ate time to begin teaching the people proper hygienic care of the mouth than to begin by training the pub lic school children. Teach them and supply them for a time and they will readily see the good. Just at this point let me digress long enough to say by way of paren thesis, that through the efforts of your most worthy county school sup erintendent he has secured a gift from Colgate & Co., of New York, a cream and tooth paste as free samples, which are to be given from time to time to each school boy and girl who will supply himself or her self with a brush and take a pledge to use the samples. This, boys and girls, is without cost to you save the price of a tooth brush, which can be secured at a very nominal cost, and one which will be sure to pay you the biggest dividend of any investment you can make, i. e., in preservation of your teeth and the protection of your usual health. Bad teeth are directly responsible for more stomach trouble than you have ever realized, therefore, you to under the laws of this state. T. A. WALLACE, Atty for petitioner. """ l *"" 1 " 1 ,-.ii.mji "i iii n i ii ii ought to begin early and get ‘this j Hlibit so fixed that it will'fast you | through life. Most boys and girls never learn this important lesson till they have spent several hours in the dentist’s chair and walked the floor all night for a good many nights with the toothache. The writer of this article would j doubtless be wearing a plate or sev- ] eral bridges now were it not for the j fact he formed this habit earlier and I has his teeth inspected every three j or four months for decays. It is j true he has no less than fonrteen fill ings in his teeth, but if he had known the importance of this earlier than ! he did it wmuld doubtless have been ; unnecessary to have had any decayed teeth at all. This is not in a spirit of criticism or advertising, but an effort to help you start right, then stay right. These packages of which 1 spoke will be distributed to you through your teacher in each school at a later time, and from time to time, until our allotment is used up, and at the end of that time we feel that j | there will be but few boys or girls j j who have started well, willing to i stop. Your teeth do not wait till you are j old before they begin to decay. I have seen children time and again [ go to the dentist to have their per- \ manent teeth extracted, their par ents thinking that they would shed this. It is indeed a pitiable condi tion. These decays are responsible for; quite a lot of nervousness, in addi- j tion to stomach trouble, neuralgia, foul breath and injury to the gen-j eral health. I am not writing this article to send you boys and girls to the dentist, but to show you the way whereby it will j not be necessary for you to go.
