No sick headache, sour stomach,
biliousness or constipation
by morning.
Got a 10-cent box now.
Turn the rascals out—the headache,
biliousness, Indigestion, the sick, sour
stomach and foul gases—turn them
out to-night and keep them out with
Cas carets.
Millions of men and women take a
Cascaret now and then and never
know the misery caused by a lazy
liver, clogged bowels or an upset stom
ach.
Don t put in another day of distress.
Let Oascarets cleanse your stomach;
remove-Nhe spur, fermenting food;
the excess bile from your liver
and carry out all the constipated
waste matter and poison in the
bowels. Then you will feel great.
A Cascaret to-night straightens you
out by morning. They work while
you sleep. A 10-cent box from
any drug' store means a clear head,
eweet stomach and clean, healthy liver
and bowel .action for months. Chil

Duties of a Wife.
“You fiill the pails with sand, and let
me turn them out,” suggested - six
year-old Jack to little Doris.
His playmate obediently complied.
“Now we’ll build a castle, and you
shall fetch the water to go round it,”
exclaimed Jack.
Dutifully the little maid struggled
up and down the beach, carrying buck
ets of water.
“Can’t you fetch the water now,
Jack,” she suggested, ‘‘and let me pour
it round?”
“Girls can’t do that properly,” an
swered the hoy. “Let s paddle. But, I
say, Doris, do you want to marry me
when you grow up?”
“Yes- —oh, yes!” Doris was delighted
at the prospect.
The boy, however, assumed a bored
air, and lazily extended his feet to
ward her.
“Very well, then,” he said noncha
lantly. “If you're going to be my

WILES OF TEMPTER
Develop the Soul, But Path of
Dalliance Is Never Road to
Spiritual Triumph.
Temptations are the rounds in the
ladder upon which the soul rises.
I here are always rounds enough to
develop ihe will and to temper the
soul from above. There is no need of
dallying with the temptation of the
brute or seeking the seductions of
the lower life in order to temper the
soul. The path of dalliance is never
the road to spiritual triumph. Theo
dore Parker was wont to divide the
temptations of life into two classes, the
lust of the appetites and the lust of
power; the former the temptations
that beset youth, the latter the more
sordid and subtle temptations of age.
The story of the temptations of
Jesus may well be taken as a parable
of the temptations of all men. First,
the greed of bread, the lust of money,
the turning of everything to gold.
Next, the greed of power the politician
knows, the lure of the aristocrat,' the
conceit cf kings and man-made nobles.
Temptation of Recklessness.
Last, the temptations of reckless
ness. the disposition to defy the laws
that control the life of the humble
and the lo.wly, the gambling inspira
tion, the man who temporizes today
that he may be powerful tomorrow,
the woman who seeks the seductions
of society, violates the conditions of
sense, thrift and art in order that she
may get “into the swim” and then se
cure a vantage ground for usefulness
“Lead us not into temptation,” is
the cry of the mortal in the presence
of the clamorous demands of the un
holy life. Most of the animal func
tions of the body have become auto
matic in the human. Heart, lungs,
stomach and other special organs dis
charge their functions unbidden.
Their actions have become organ
ic; the battle for their control was
fought low down on the biological tree.
This organized efficiency was given
to man at his birth, so it is the strug
gle of the spirit to make mortality or
ganic, the conscience automatic. This
is the secret of the pure in heart; it
“thinketh no evil,” shuns the vile,
forgets self.
Starvation in Plenty.
The struggle of the disinterested is
in the interest of others, and the
prayer of the noble breaks into the
plural number again; it is the prayer
of organized society. v
Man through the power of mind has
converted stones into bread, but that
does not necessarily allay his hunger.
A dyspeptic dies of starvation in the
presence of a full board. By virtue
of the same power of mind man has
come into possession of kingdoms; he
has reached power, influence, leader
ship.
But these have not necessarily
brought either peace or happiness.
“Uneasy lies the head that wears a
crown.” The disgraces of those in
power, the shame and blame that
gathers round social leaders, the im
becilities of the strong, the weakness
of the schemers, all give point and
power to the prayer that seeks to
master temptations and to escape
from evil.
These petitions lead the way to the
peace of God, to whom the strong soul
ascribes “kingdom and power and
glory, forever and ever. Amen.”
Who Shall Begin?
Within the church there is a life
that either repels or draws those who
are outside the church, says the Sun
day School Times. If a church is oc
cupied with controversy, and there is
a spirit of dissension among the mem
bers, one who is outside is not drawn
by this fact to seek fellowship with
that group. Many a church to which
no accession of membership has come
in a long while, may fairly ask itself
whether the life in that church is hos
pitable to the convert. In one neigh
borhood where church dissension and
rivalry had worked much harm, a
number of persons who desired to
unite with one or another of the
churches delayed so doing, and one of
them said to a friend: “We are only
.iust waiting for some one to begin.”
No one seemed eager to be the first
to enter into a local fellowship where
strife was in the atmosphere. Alany
a church may have, just outside its
doors, those who are waiting—wait
ing for the church itself to begin to
show that it is a center of the Chris
tian fellowship of love and service.
It. is not enough to say that those out- ;
side ought to come in. Those who are
within often need to begin by making ,
sure that the fellowship of believers ;
to which they invite others is a Chris
tian fellowship.
Lcok Higher.
Any outlook on life is likely to prove
disappointing unless it is an upward
one. The student of art or literature,
too easily satisfied with his own at
tainments because they are not so
very far behind those of his compan
ions, needs the warning "Look high
er!” In order that he may rightly
estimate what he has gained, he needs
to adjust his scale of values by com
parison with the work of the great
masters. His models should not be
the mediocre but the giants! The
same message comes in those mat
ters that concern the life of the soul.
Even the Christian believes, who has
much to stimulate and teach him in
the lives of those of his fellows whose
faithfulness and zeal have made them
conspicuous in the history of • the
church, must still lock higher.yrot
unto these witnesses, but "unto Jesus,
the author and perfector of our faith ”

YOUTH WAS A LITTLE BITTER
Uncle's Quite Natural Desire Did Not
Seem to Him to Be Altogether
Reasonable.
Howard is quite a spendthrift. His
only living relative is an old uncle
who is not; and there are other differ
ences between Howard and his un
cle, says the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
However, one day not long ago our
young hero more or less diffidently ap
proached his avuncular relative with
the intimation that it would be a
graceful thing for the old chap to
loosen up.
“Young man,” said the uncle, “you
are a spendthrift. If I had money I
would not give it to you. But I have
no money. You seem to think I have
a treasure hidden away somewhere
Get rid of that notion. 1 have saved
up a sum large enough to bury me de
cently when I die, and that is all.
Now, get out!”
A friend of Howard asked him a lit
tle later in the day why ho looked so
thoughtful.
"1 was just wondering.” he said,
“where that old fellow got the idea
that he ought to be buried decently.”
SAGE TEA AND SULPHUR
DARKENS YOUR GRAY HAIR
Look Years Younger! Try Grandma’s
Recipe of Sage and Sulphur
and Nobody Will Know.
Almost everyone knows that Sage
Tea and Sulphur, properly compound
ed, brings back the natural color and
lustre to the hair when faded, streaked
or gray; also ends dandruff, itching
scalp and stops falling hair. Years
ago the only way to get this mixture
was to make it at home, which is
mussy and troublesome.
Nowadays we simply ask at any
drug store for "Wyeth’s Sage and Sul
phur Hair Remedy.” You will get a
large bottle for about 50 cents. Every
body uses this old, famous recipe, be
cause no one can possibly tell that
you darkened your hair, as it does it
so naturally and evenly. You dampen
a sponge or soft brush with it and
draw this through your ho,ir, taking
one small strand at a time; by morn
ing the gray hair disappears, and
after another application or two, your
hair becomes beautifully dark, thick
and glossy and you look years younger.

is Typhoid Conquered?
Vaccination to prevent smallpox is
so general in this country and has
been so effective in abolishing what
was formerly one of the most destruc
tive scourges of the human race that
nearly everybody except the small
number of people whose temperament
predisposes them to “take the other
side” accepts it as a matter of course
and recognizes in it one of the great
est blessings conferred by modern
medical advancement. But typhoid
vaccination is somewhat comparative
ly new, with which the public as a
whole is not familiar. Yet it will be
well for the public to take heed of the
results that have been obtained by its
use in the United States army.—

Syrup of Figs/’
Children love this “fruit laxative,”
and nothing else cleanses, the tender
stomach, liver and bowels so nicely.
A child simply will not stop playing
to empty the bowels, and the result is
they become tightly clogged with
waste, liver gets sluggish, stomach
sours, then your little one becomes
cross, balf-sick, feverish, don't eat,
sleep or act naturally, breath is bad,
system full of cold, has sore throat,
stomach-ache or diarrhoea. Listen,
Mother! See if tongue is coated, then
give a teaspoonful of “California
Syrup of Figs,” and in a few hours all
the constipated waste, sour bile and
undigested food passes out of the sys
tem, and you have a well child again.
Millions of mothers give “California
Syrug of Figs” because it is perfectly
harmless; children love it, and it nev

and bowels.

No Rest— No Peace
There’s no rest and but little peace for
a person whose kidneys are out of order.
Lame in the morning, suffering cricks
In the back and sharp stabs of pain
with every sudden strain, the day is
just one round of pain and trouble.
It would be strange if all-day back
ache did not wear on the temper, but
it is not only on that account that
people who suffer with weak kidneys
are nervous, cross and irritable.
Uric acid is poison to the nerves,
and when the kidneys are not working
well, this acid collects in the blood
and works upon the nerves, causing
headache, dizziness, languor, an in
clination to worry over trifles, and a
suspicious, short temper.
Rheumatic pain, neuralgia, sciatica,
lumbago, neuritis and gravel are fur
ther steps in uric acid poisoning.
Don't neglect kidney weakness. An
aching back, with unnatural passages
of the kidney secretions. Is cause
enough to suspect the kidneys. Use
Doan’s Kidney Pills, a remedy which
has been used for years, the world
over, for weak kidneys, backache, ir
regular kidney action and uric acid
Children Not Naturally Destructive.
Be gentle with the child who
smashes his toys. The fault is not
his, but yours, who provided him with
toys too complicated for his immature
little mind to understand. Dottoressa
Maria Montessori, in her lecture at
Carnegie hall, said little children were
not naturally destructive, as most par
ents had reason to suppose, but that
the instinct to pull the object to
pieces was the only natural thing for
a child to do with something it did
not understand. Most toys given to
children are too complicated, Dr. Mon
tessori asserted.
“Instead of expecting children to
amuse themselves with toys they do
not understand, mothers should as
sume more responsibility for their
children’s entertainment,” she con
tinued. “The mother who drives her
child away from her side when she is
working makes a pitiful mistake. It
is impossible to estimate the effect
upon the child's, mind if he were
never turned away, if he could always
be sure of sympathy and understand
ing from the person he loves most of
all.”
