Fitzgerald This Year
Fitzgerald, July I.—The present
year will mark an epoch in the history
of this city in the way of new build
ings, as before the year closes busi
ness and pubic buildings, residences
and improvements will be finished to
the value of more than $200,000.

or will be completed by December 31,

Celabration for the Fourth of July
Will be Big Even in Fitz
gerald This Year
Fitzgerald, July I.—Plans are now
practically complete for the big 4th
of July celebration which will be pull
ed off here on Saturday, and it is ex
pected that great crowds will be in the
city from all sections of the country
to enjoy the day's festivities.
Loyal business men and patriotic
citizens have joined in with one ac
cord to make the day one of the great
est in the history of the city. Stores
and business houses will be closed for
the day and the city will be decorated
throughout.
There will be a military and motor
cycle parade through the principal
streets, and this will end at the Blue
and Gray park where such prominent
men as Hon. Edwin Young, who put
Brooks county on the map; Hon. J. M.
Ashley, Valdosta's live wire; Hon. D.
L. Martin, and others will deliver ad
dresses appropriate to the occasion.
At noontime a free barbecue will be
served, and this barbecue, it is claim
ed, will be one of the greatest ever
spread anywhere in the State. There
will be enough to feed 10,000 people,
should that many be on hand.
During the afternoon, various con
tests will beheld, such as sack races,
cantaloupe eating contest, gifls' races
and an egg race for women only.
These contests will be followed by a
, sham battle between the crack Quit
man and Fitzgerald National guards.
1 A baseball game between picked teams
will also be a feature of the after
noon's entertainment.
There will also be held a .motorcycle
race at the fair grounds under the aus
pices of the Fitzgerald Motorcycle
! club’which bias fair to attract much
attention.
Special excursion rates have been
secured on all the railroads by the
Chamber of Commerce, under whose
auspices the day’s events will be con
ducted, and to judge from all that is
being heard here now, Fitzgerald will
be one of the livliest cities of its size
in the United States on July 4th.
City Primary August Fifth
A city primary will be held in Fitz
gerald on August fifth for the purpose
of nominating four members of the
city council, a tax assessor and one
member of the water and light com
mission.
