FOR THE STATE SENATE
After conferring with a good many
of my friends from different sections
of the county, I take this method of an
nouncing that I am a candidate for the
state senate from the Fifth Senatorial
district, comprising the counties of
Coffee, Ware and Clinch, subject to the
white primary. If elected, I will serve
the people to the best of my ability.

The voters of the County have been
so insistent in their demands for the en
try of Judge C. A. Ward into the State
senatorial race that he was forced to
make up his mind one way or the other
without further delay and in discussing
the matter with a reporter of this paper
he stated that he would be in the race.
Judge Ward is no stranger to anyone
in Coffee County, he having several
times represented the County as Rep
resentative in the lower house and was
sent to the Senate the last time Coffee
furnished a Senator for the sth. As a
lawmaker he has always stood for the
right and has been a success in that ca
pacity and no one doubts that if elected
he will again represent the county with

It being Coffee’s time to lurnisb the
State Senator for the sth Senatorial
district under the old custom of rotation
we present with pleasure and confidence
the name of Prof. J. R. Overman as a
candidate for this important office. It
needless to go into any explanation as
to the record or character of this well

the duties of this high and responsible
office justly and impartially, and at the
same time to dispose of ail business

consistant with a fair and proper trial
of the cases, in order that courts may
be operated as economically as possible.
To those who are not personally ac
quainted with me, I may say that I
have been in the active general practica
of law since 1895, and during this period
have also served as Judge of City Courts
for six years and likewise filled a short
term upon the Superior Court bench,
in the nine counties of the old Brunswick
Circuit, and through all these years my
entire time has been devoted to my
profession. The support and co-opera
tion of the citizens and voters will be

The bonds for building and equip
ping a modren and commodious school
house for Pearson have been sold. A
building committee composed of F. E.
McNeal, Jeff Krkland, J. O. White, H.
P. Smith, Joe Corbett and William
Smith has been appoinnted to secure
ihe plans and select the site and to
■superintend the work of building. It
is more than probable that the site
upon which the present building is
situated will be selected, provided ad
joining lands sufficient to make a
square of four acres can be secured.
