The voters of the County have been
so insistent in their demands for the en

senatorial race that he was forced to j
make up his mind one way or the other J

the matter with a reporter of this paper
he stated that he would be in the race.
Judge Ward is no stranger to anyone
in Coffee County, he having several
times represented the County as Rep
resentative in the lower house and was
sent to the Senate the last time Coffee
furnished a Senator for the sth. As a
lawmaker he has always stood for the

” J. I. SUMMERALL
To the People of Coffee County:
In making this announcement for
re-election as representatve of our
county I first wish to thankmy loyal
friends for their past support and
their assurance of a continuance of
same . I am grateful indeed for the
confidence reposed in me, and I shall

honor.
C. E. STEWART
June 22, 1914.
FOR REPRESENTATIVE
At the request of many of my friends
I am in the race for Representative
and I want your vote and influence
in my behalf.
I was born am] reare in this
county and if elected will work and
vote for laws that will advance the
moral and material wenare of the peo
ple- of my county and section.
I believe that State and County tax
es are too high and that they can be
re duced by strict economy in appro
priating and spending the peoples
money. In my opinion, public ser
vants. including the state Logi.Mavm
have b. < n too lavish in appropriat
ing and spending the hard earned mor.
oy wrung from the people by taxation
This can be remedied if public offi
cials will use the same strict economy
and caie that a good business nu.i ex
ercises in lookng after iiis own inter
ests.
I favor a change in the law that will
require the State Legislature tn meet
every two years in place of annually
This will save the taxe payers largi
sums of money every year.
1 favor aliberal support of our pun
lic system, but think that a law should
be enacted that will permit the taxes
collected for school purposes from thi
whte people to be applied to the white
schools and that the taxes collected
from the colored people for school pur
poses appled to the colored schools
This would force each race to ed
ucate its own children and would bf
just and equitable.
I am the candidate of no clique,
ring or faction and if elected will be
the servant of all the people, and will
use every honorable means in my pow
er for the enactment of such laws as
will better the conditions along every
line and for the people as a whole.
Trusting that I may receive your
valuable support in my race, I am
your faithful and obedient servant,
J. M. ROBERTS.

twenty-one years ago; and have practiced law,
which has been my sole business since.
I was a member of the General Council of
the City of Atlanta in 1903-4 and 1906-7; Vice-

City from 1909 to August, 1913; and am now a

I have not asked the lawyers of my City

and ability. As to both, I refer to the Judges
before whom I have tried cases and the law

I have come in contact.
I have no criticism to make of the other
gentlemen in this race personally, but I do be
lieve that the fact that they have each had al
most no experience in the practice of law, either
in the trial, or appellate courts, is a matter to
which it is proper that attention should be
called, while it is equally proper for me to say
that I have not had any other business, and to
express the hope that my experience as a prac

the position which I seek.
