JASON CARVER KILLED

alleging that the sancity of his
home had been violated. J. F. Hill shot
ar.c! killed Jonas Carver at a place
c€£.r Pridgen last Friday night and is
now in jail awaiting trial.
The shooting occurred after Carver
was returning home, he and Mrs. Hill
having been out for a ride together, it
is alleged, and Hill laid for him and
when Carver drove by where Hill was
standing along side the hoad Hill shot
him.
It seems that there has been con
siderable feeling between the two men
for some time ow ing to the alleged re
lations of Carver with Hill’s wife, and
t;. last grand jury found an indict
ment against Mrs. Hill for selling liq

BIG FIELD DAY IS
BEING LOOKED FOR
It is thought that notwithstanding
the fact that this is to be the first one
to be carried out in Coffee County,
the Coffe County Schools Contest will
be one of the best yet held anywhere.
The schools will meet in the district
contests on next Saturday, April 1 1 ,
in the several towns of the county,
and on the following Saturday, April
24, the teachers and as many of the
pupils and patrons as can, will meet
in Douglas for the final and big con
test.
The meeting will be held in the
school auditorium, beginning at 10:15
o’clock in the morning, at which time
all the announcements will be made

DOUGLAS AND AGGIES
PLAY EXCITING GAME
In a hard fought twelve-inning game
at rtm ball park Monday afternoon, the
Aggies were unable to do any better
than tir up with the Douglas team.
The game started off with zeros be
ing charged up to both teams at the
end of the first inning. But before the
close of the last half of the second,
Douglas made two runs, and their sup
porters declared that was the begin
ning of a score of anywhere from 50 to
100 to nix, in favor of the Douglasites.
However, Davis, the invincible, who
pitched for the Aggies, steadied him
self and at the same time “threw” a
little ginger into his team, with the
result that Douglas did’nt make no
more runs, not a-t-a-1-1, although they

TWO RALLIES TO BE
HELD APRIL FOURTH
There will be two rallies in Coffee
County on the 4th Saturday in April.
One at Falcs in the morning at 10 o'-
clock and the other at White House
in the afternoon at 3 o’clock.
President Brown and other speak
ers will be present for the puropse of
talking organization and the benefits
to be derived from the Union and its
tributaries.
In this connection wo wish to stress
the point that it is absolutely neces
sary for the entire membership to as
sert themselves and have as many
people there as they can who are not

FARMERS' UNION IS
GROWING VERY FAST
In all sections of the State, the in
terest in the Farmers' Union is stead
ily increasing, and the membership is
increasing at the rate of several hun
dred a week.
Hon. J. J. Brown, state president,
w sa in the city a short while last week
having just returned from an extend
ed trip from northeast Georgia. He
stated to a Progress reporter that he
had met with the most encouraging
results wherever he had been, and on
last Thursday he commissioned twen
ty-six new organizers, making between
seventy-five and one hundred now' at.
