Mr. W. L. Hall has returned from
Miami, where he visited his sister,

Mrs. Green has been called away
on account of the critical illness of
her mother, Mrs. Pitman.
The many friends of Mr. and Mrs.
G. Meeks and family are glad to
know that Mrs. Meeks and little
daughter, Marion, are convalescing
from mumps.
Charles Meeks, the young son of
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Meeks is quite
ill at the home of his parents. Their
many friends wish for him a speedy
recovery.
There was an interesting service
Sunday morning at the Baptist
church at which time, Prof. Carlton
of Piedmont Institute made an elo
quent plea in behalf of the campaign
now on to make Piedmont Institute
a Junior College. There were also
impressive talks made by Rev. Green
and Rev. Poindexter, the latler being
a former pastor of Nicholls Baptist
church.
The many friends of Mr. and Mrs.
T. Burkett and family, who have re
cently returned to Nicholls after a
two year stay in Florida, are being
most cordially welcomed home, which
was substantially proven on Saturday
afternoon, when their home was dis
covered on fire. Only a second from
the alarm and the entire tbwn was
on the scene giving heroic services,
saving the home and its contents
from what threatened speedy de
struction.
The Parent Teachers’ Association
held its regular monthly meeting Fri
day, the eleventh, four P. M. in the
High School auditorium with Miss
Maude Griswold, president, in the
chair. After the usual business, many
subjects of interest were discussed,
among them being plans for a enfa
terial supper, to be given on the
evening of the 26th of this month.

The Woman’s Missionary Society
of the Waycross District, met at
Nicholls Methodist church Thursday
afternoon. There were delegates
from Waycross, Douglas, Broxton,
Alma and Pearson. Mrs. Ben Poer
of Braxton, precided. The devotion
al services were conducted by Rev.
Cook, after which interesting and in
structive talks were made by Mrs.
Haddock, district secretary, Mrs.
Taylor of Alma, Mrs. Lott of Broxton
and Mrs. Simmons of Nicholls. A
social hour followed the business meet
ing to which delicious refreshments
were served.
Mrs. Raber’s domestic science class
entertained Friday evening at a beau
tifully planned garden party at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. Job Hall. The
lawn presented a veritable fairy
land with its vari-colored Japanese
lanterns blending harmoniously with
the lovely figures of the charming
beauty of young ladies so gracious
ly serving their patrons. The pro
ceeds will be appropriated for equip
ment in this department.
M isses Margaret and Blanche
Douglas will spend the week end in
Savannah.
It is a source of regret to the peo
ple of Nicholls that Mr. and Mrs.
Cartwright are leaving for Florida
where they will make their home.
The Constellation club, which is
composed of the music and expres
sion department of Nicholl high
school, will meet Friday afternoon at
four o’clock in Miss Nichols’ studio.
Mr. and M.rs. Dave Anderson spent
Friday in Douglas.
Dr. and Mrs. Zeb Hall, Mrs. Ad
ams and Mrs. Raber formed a con
genial motor party to Waycross
Thursday.
Mr. Milton Cole of Douglas was
the week end guest of his parents,
Mr. end Mrs. L. B. Cole.
Dr. D. H. Meeks was in Waycross
Wednesday on a business trip.
Rev. 11. M. Meeks entertained a
number of friends Sunday at a din

COFFEE COUNTY PROGRESS
Rev. J. A. Cook is engu i in a

Rev. M. M. Pierce, of Ome i, Ga.,
and Rev. L. E. Pierce of Pelham.
Large congregations are attending
and much and lasting good is being
accomplished.
Rev. L. E. Pierce will preach at
the Methodist church next Sunday
evening at 8:15. Rev. Pierce is the
popular pastor of one of the churches
at Pelham and we wish for him a
large and attentive congregation.
A near cyclone visited Beach Sun
day afternoon, doing considerable
damage.
The K. P’s. held their district
meeting Thursday in the Baptist
church at Nicholls. The adress of
welcome was made by Rev. H. M.
Meeks, the response by Dr. Christy
of Brunswick. There were many
distinguished speakers. Among them
being, Grand Chancellor Moore of
Atlanta, and Hon. Leopold, a veterian
K. of P. of Savannah.
At noon a sumptious dinner was
served at the K. P. hall.
Miss Carolyn Stephens, the attrac
tive young daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lamar Stephens, entertained a num
ber of friends at the home of her
parents Saturday afternoon at 4:30.
A number of enjoyable games were
played, after which a dainty ice
course was served. Those present
were, Jessie Anderson, Eula Cole
man, Birtie C. Coleman, .Margaret
Meeks, Mildred Kitchens, Pearl Ses
sons, Dorothy Hall, Bonnie Blalock,
