Griswold’s Improved Colton Gins.
r III IK subscriber will coutiuue tho manufacture of
JL GINS ou his usual extensive scale, ami embraces
this opportunity to thank his numerous customers, for
their liberal patronage heretofore. The estimation in
which his Gins are held, may be known from tbo fact,
of his having sold more than two tlsrusand. within the
lost three vcors, probably ten to one over any other
factory in the State. This evidence of tlie superiority
of hisGina, may bo accounted for by his being the first
to introduce the late improvements, and keeping the
lead by yearly adding new onea; his first and second
improvements, made the quality of Cotton perfect,
though some were rather slow, his third raado them
sufficiently fast, it then only remained, to make them
more durable and convenient, which has been done lie
believes effectually, by several new improvements the
present year—besides, he lias the exclusive right for
the State, and the privilege of other sections, to for-
nish Reed's Patent Water Boxes, which are believed
to he tcu times more durable than any other, k.v those
who havo made a fair trial of them and are infallibly
secure against tire by friction. His fine Gins will gin

advantages, in time for all to engage, and be supplied
before next Ginning season—or engagements can be
made by letter, directed to him, Clinton, Joucs county,

ProposalM,
F OR Publishing in the citv of Pittsburgh, Penn.,
a Weekly Paper to lie called THE CONFED
ERACY.—At the suggestion of many friends and
with the approbation of several distinguished gentle
men residing indifferent puts of the Union. we have
concluded to commence a Newspaper bearing the a-
bovo title. Tbo limits of a prospectus will not allow
us to go into a detailed statement of tlie various caus
es which have prompted tia to the undertaking. Suffi
cient for our present puiqatse is it to state, that every
true friend to the perpetuation of the Union of the State's
must feel deeply mortified to witness the systematic
attempts now making to dissolve it—and cannot but
deplore tlie silcuce of the Northern press, generally,
■pn the subject. A crisis is at hand. The “Aboli
tionists," ‘‘Liberty men” and advocates of the “Wil-
mot proviso” secin determined either to force oar
Southern brethren to succotub to their views, or, as the
alternative, sever tlie Union.
From the apathy manifested in the North, it is sup-
>o»ed by many that North of Mason's and Dixon’s
ine but one feeling exists on the subject; though this
is not so, still, our silence is well calculated to suit the
ends sought for by these demagogues. Wc are deter
mined, therefore, so far as wc arc personally concern
ed, to doonrpart towards correcting the cvih
When the institutions of one section of the Union
arc branded as “infamous,” “wicked,” mid “deserving
the curse of God”—particularly when those institu
tions were sanctioned or recognized liv a Washington,
mi Adams, a Jefferenu, a Franklin, a Henry, and their
conte tnporai ies of Revolutionary days, wc think it high
time to raise a warning voice and put an end to the
clamor. Is there more patriotism, more love of coun
try, or a greater desire to sec the present and future
generations happy, contented and free, actuating the
Abolitionista in tlieir present attempt to array one
portion oftlio Union against the other, than governed
tlie Heroes und Sages (if *76 7 Tho comparison is
odious.
Wo liuve said enough to enable tho reader to under
stand us, and we promise on onr part, all of our time,
our talent and influence to make the “Confederacy” a
useful, instructive and invaluable family newspaper.
Wc may add that wo have engaged as correspon
dents fur the “Confederacy" several gentlemen of the
highest literary attainments. Were it politic or pru
dent, tho names of gentlemen well known throughout
the Union, as Statesmen and Patriots, nnd who have
contributed towards the getting up of the "Confedera
cy,"micht be given.
cy Will those to whom this Prospectus is sent pro-
cure us a few subscribers awl send on the names and
mouey. There is not a paper in the State possessing
the independence toopisise tlie present war upon our
Southern brethren and their institutions, and anticipa
tingopposition of the most virulent and personal char-
actcr, wc cannot but hope that our distant friends will
lend a helping bswl. We have already a sufficient
guaranty to promise the continuance of the "Confedera
cy" for one yearat least, still, we desire a circulation,
as witlmnt it our object cannot be accomplished.
C7*The first number of the paper will be isst
but the middle of October next.
Terms:—Tho “Confederacy will be published
weekly on a fine white sheet, doable medium size,
with new type, and present, at least in appearance,
naeofthe largest and handsomest papers published in
the Union. The price will be 62 per annum, payable
invariably in advance. Where several wish to club
together for the paper, the following will be the terms:
force copies, 65; seven copies, 810; and fifteen copies,
