XUo Life Clock.
nr *»■*•
There ii a little mystic clock,
No hutnau-cyo b»tb •ecu.
That beatetb oo-»u«l beatelh on,
From morning now eVu.
And when the »oul ii wrapt in sleep,
And Ueare'.h not a sound. . -
It tickaaud ticka the livelong night,
And never runneth down.
O, wondrooa ia the work of art,
Which kuclla the parting hour.
But art oe'er formed, uoriniud conceived
The life-clock's magic power.
Nor set in gold, nor decked in gema.
By wealth nod pride possessed,
But rich, or poor, or high, or low,
' Each tic era it in hia breast.
When life'* deep atream. mid beda of flowera.
All still and tolUy glides.
Like the wavelew at*|< with agentiebeat,
It warns of paaaing-tides.
When tbrcat'oio?darkness gathers o'er,
Aud hope'* bright viaiou* nee.
Like the aulleu stroke of the madled oar.
It beatetb heavily.
When paaaioo nerves the warrior's arm,
For deeds of hate aud wrong.
Though heeded got the feariul sound,
The kuelt is deep and alroug.
When eyes to .eyes are beatiog toil.
And tender worda are apokeii.
Then fast and wide it rattles on.
As if with love twere broken.
Such is the clock that measures life,
Ur flesh and spirit blended.
And thus 'twill run within (lie breast.
Till that strange life ia coded.

Precocity of Genius.
The disease of precocity is sadly aggravated by
the atmosphere of great Cities, everywhere unfriend
ly to the lutaut. ^stimulants are gii 90 instead of se
dative!. Accordingly here wr hud children who are
actually meu aud women, aud meu aud woiueu, who
play the parts ol children. In tins uietrojiolia. where
greater abilities are said to be required to escape
li'o-n being run over in the streets Ilian to shine at Al
bany as a politician, the tax upou the bruin ia not the
leu! of the numerous eaaetioua to which Ilia citizen
ia sunjeetei.'. Too fact is. as Mr. Proverbial Tupper
has puilusophicaiiy remarked, that
*’A babe ia a boats it a loan to be rendered back with
interestf
parents, therefore, feel obliged to make large demands
upon their chihtreu to c uabi'o them to pay it.'
Among the accomplishment* of early geuius. modes
ty has never been rvekoned on. Iudued. it is a lixed
opinion among persons of this description generally,
that the wisdom of tlu world resides wan peuplc un
der tiveoty live. And solur as they are themselves
concerned, the estimate is, for the must part, uuhap
pily often untrue; Ibr subsequent to this period they
are observed to add little to their own stuck. Unlike
the mulberry, requiring age to’elaborate the lincat
juices of its delicious fi-iiit. they have consumed their
energies in the initial throes of flowering, Tiie drama
of their life coutaini live acta indeed.!, bnt the whole
atury unluckily has leaked out in the first; in the oilier
tour, consequently, they do not so much as suffer.
There have been instances, it is true, of meu ac
quiring in thirty years as much its others have iu
thrice that time. In the pretence ol immortal geuius.
wo shall not apeak of time. When the awed spec
tator stands in wonder before St. Peter's he asks not
how4on$ it was in building, if there bav* been Ra
phaels ahd Mozarts. Titians aud Miltons have also
lived. The whole race of the iminurtals form an ex
ception to the vulgar syntax. According to tbat.late
fruits keep best.
Were intellect capital augmenting in proportion
•0 the duration of the investment its early maturity
would be doubtless an advantage. Bar. unfortunate
ly, many of us live. as many of us, besides the He
baewa, read, beginning at the eud- and leaving off iu
the middle. Very few, indeed, would have written a
Paradise, Lost at auy age, if they had tried; hot
multitudes would bnvu been as likely to succeed at
tweoty-five as at sixty-two. After a certain period,
alas tnaltor drops out of the mind almost as fast as it
it put in. This msy rise from several causes, one of
which, I fear, is beyond all surgery, to wit, the tliffi
cutty of coaxiuga piut bottle to bold a quart. Pre-
ooeity.is doubtless profitable to its possessor. He has
a long time to live upon its income. Its capital may
not increase; but in die meantime its revenue* are
veqr Agreeable. For mankind are in conspiracy to
lovadMfcs not of season. Sometimes it is a.salmon,
then a salad ; now an-! infant Roscius, ugain • bauv

Dr Little—Dear sir: I feel it a duty to inform you
of a Case iu wliidi your Anodyne Coiieli Drops, was
used with so much success. For the last twenty
years a negro man nl mine has had a severe cough and
Asthma, rmtiine oil by spells every- three or lour
weeks, and sometimes witb so much violence as near
ly to prove fatal. He lias taken much medicine lie-
aides being attended by physicians, with but littli-
henefit. During au attack, Dr. Sinead prescribed
your cnugli drops, which souii relieved flic cough and
difficult breathing,he continued the medicine for
few day ». when he had t.-o mote of the- symptoms of
the disease left. Several months have elapsed since,
and there has been no return whatever, besides lie is
enjoying good health. I have known this medicine
to be used frequently for coughs, colds. Ac. with ex
cellent effect. Truly, yours.
