As a mau of intellect, and as a lawyer he ranked
high among his professional brethren. Tho Legis
lature of Georgia testified its confidence in his abil
ity and learning by electing him Jadgo of the Su
perior Court, oi'tlie Chattahoochee Circuit, a posi
tion which he held with credit and honor uulil
within a short liino previous to bis death. In bis
decease, this community has lost ouo of its most
estimable and eminent citizens—his family and
friends n bereavement which earth caonot repair.
The funeral services will take place this day at

count of a new Eldorado, discovered ia Califor
nia;
We have been all along prepared to bear mar-
vellnna accounts of discoveries of gold; that it
would be as nbundaul as lead seemed, not alto
gether improbable; and »■« have looked forward
lo a time wheo a mau would have to give a cart
load of the precinat inetsl iu exchange for a bar-
rrl of wheat. But there is nothing left for cre
dulity now. The world lias never heard of such
Wealth as lie* upou the shores of the Pacific.
It is well known that Ibe steamer Chesapeake,
wi li about thirty adventurers, left Ibis port on the
21st ult., for the Klamath, and in yesterday’s pa-
pi r, wo gave some account of bor progress.
Scarcely was our paper issued, when the Chesa
peake came into port, bringing back five or six of
the •’ prospectors," Gen. Wilson and John A. Col

Twenty .seven miles byond the Trinity, there it

In front, and on floor of 2d story, there is to run
an open plaza the entire length of the building, in
width 14 feet. There will be 20 windows, * by SO
feet, lights 16 by 20 inches; 24 windows 6 by 7 feet,
lights 16 by 20 inches, square hends; 15 windows 3 by
Gj feet, lights 10 by 12, and 20 windows 3 by 8 feet.
The above is a mere outline of the plan of the con
templated edifice. For more particular information
those interested are referred to the drawings of the
Architect io this place
For the erection of the above edifice we solicit
sealed Proposals, until the 10th of March next, at
which time the contract will he let to the lowest bid
der. Mechanics abroad wishing to put in Proposals
for the job, would do well to call and sec tbe plan of
the building.
The work must be completed by the 1st of Novem

few sales to report. The receipt of the Intelligence

sufficient to fix quotations. Tbe receipts last week
