Sears Is patentee. The bell is a cylinder, eight feet long, and about the same number of feet in diameter. It is composed of iron, and has Tound windows ujwn the top and sides to admit light to the divers within. There is also an opening at the top, through which two men descended to the inside of the new machine. A steam engine on board ot a vessel near, forces the air into u large iron cylinder, whence it is forced through a lio-e into the diving bell. The admission of air from this hose is at the command of the divers. By allowing it admittance the hell rises. By letting out the nir, sinks. An aper ture at the liottom of the bell allows the diver to pus* out and search among the sand or rocks, and return ngain at will. The experi ment was fullv successful. innis .far lair, ?;r. What may not live years of persevering energy and proper ap propriation of capital do for this long suffering country.” A Foreign Bank in America.—The I’rc- eurseur d’Anvers, of October 25th, contains a paragraph dated Darmstadt, October 28, in re lation to the proposed Brauch Bank in New York city, itnmounced heretofore. We trans late ns follows: “In the session of the Board of Directors of our Bank, which was held on Saturday, (Oet. 22.) at which the Princ de Ilohcnlohc presided, among the resolutions passed was one to estab lish a branch in New York. The; person who is to take charge of it departed immediately for America, aud it is thought that the regular transaction of business between New York and Darmstadt will be brought within two months at farthest. Pa. the skeleton of a human being was discovered iu the loft of the church, which was subse quently ascertained to be the remains of a citi zen who mysteriously disappeared thirteen years ago. A handkerchief which was sus pended from a rafter, showed that he commit ted suicide. A Modern Solomon, and no mistake.— The Tribune contained the following obituary notice last week; “ Solomon—In Lincoln Co.. Tenn., on the 3d inst., Mrs. Susan, wife of Wm. C. Solomon, aged about .‘13 years. This is the third wife Mr. Solomon has lost in the short space of 12 months.” Only three wives in a year! Good gracious !
