■ Tliis they declined at first, wishing to re-cross

it was impossible to permit them to cross till

From a Tennessee Exehmige of a late date
we cut the following :
A PPBENTIOE WANTED.—A YOUTH, 15
to 17 years of age, that can spell correctly and
does not eliew tobacco, smoke pipe or cigars, drink
liquor or swear, will find a pleasant situation at this
Oflicc by applying soon.
Verily, if the census rolls of Young America
contain the name of such a youth, lie should
receive a “ pleasant situation ” with the free
dom of every office in the land. Our contem
porary has set his standard high, and we fear
that the above advertisement will have to run
a long career as standing matter before his
wants are fully met. Let us see what liis wants
arc, however, and what arc the conditions lie
demands.
A Youth 15 to 17 years of age.—Tlie adver
tiser mnst live “ remote from cities,” indeed,
mid at a considerable distance from any post-
office, cross roads, or muster ground, or he
would have learned long since that “ youths,
15 to 17 years of age,” are the rarest of all
rare animals. Many “young men” mid “young
I gentlemen,” may he found about that age, no
doubt, but we can scarcely recall an instance of
I “ a youth,” having finished liis third lustrum,
I or of any thing iu hoots and breeches that old,
answering to mid recognizing the appellation,
I “youth.” The fact is, we scarcely have
I “ youths ” at all now-adays—as Mr. Weller
I complains, “ we don’t have no boys now,” and
I Shakspeare, if now revived and called upon to
revise his “ Seven Ages,” would make essen-
I tial alterations. He would, of course, retain
infancy—for the world lias not reached tlie
I point of progress which can dispense with this
vestibular stage.
I He would scarcely admit the “ school boy,”
| for “ schools ” have long since been superseded
by “ academics ” mid “ colleges,” except in a
few backwoods settlements, and hoys have
been translated into young gentlemen. The
I lover mid the soldier arc still parts which each
I man plays, more or less prominently, mid then
we reach the “ old fogy ”—a sort of retiring
list for men whom the Irresistible impulses of
Young America push aside just as they begin
to be competent to do full journey work in
State or Church. We fear our Tennessee ad
vertiser has made faral blunder in calling for a
“ youth fifteen to seventeen years of ago;” hut
we pass on.
That can sjiell correctly !—What do you

Fraud!
A LL who want AXES of the real COLLINS A
CO. make should lie particular to notice the
stamps, as there are various counterfeits and imita
tions stamped' Collins, tun! Libelled much like our.*,
which are fraudulently sold in some pnrts of the Uni
ted States as our manufacture. They are made in
different parts of the country by various axe-maker*,
aud are generally of very inferior qunilty. Tlie
genuine Collins axes, which have acquired such an
extensive reputation, are invariably stamped “ COL
LINS A CO., Hartford," and cadi axe bus a printed
label with my signature, it is now more than 23
years since we commenced tlie business with the
stamp of “ Cillim A Co., Hartford," and I do not
know of any other axe-maker by the name of Collins
ill the United States,
