The trouble with most cough
medicines is that they spoil the
appetite, weaken digestion, and
bile. Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral, on
the contrary, while it gives imme

pairs the assimilative process.
Bud Murphy, colored, was jnied

It is not the extremes of heat
and cold so much as the sudden
changes in temperature that cause
certain climates to be unhealthful
When, however, the system is in
vigorated with Ayer’s Sarsaparilla
these changes are rarely attended
with injurious results.

HE GOT A SQUARE MEAL.
How a Shruwii Tramp Worked
op. a Susceptible Woman.
“Madam, l Imvo every reason
for believing that the lady next
door is greatly mistaken concern
ing' your real disposition towaid
those to whom fate lias not grunt
ed the golden opportunities others
have enjoyed for winning success
and happinoss in life. I am led to
this conclusion by a remark siio
made a moment ago.
“As I left her door she said to
me:
“ ‘It’s no use for you to go there ;
she was never known to give any
one a bite, and she is sure to send
you away hungry.'
“ In reply I said to her :
“ ‘ It may be you are mistaken.
Probably if she felt assured that
she was feeding a worthy but un
fortunate man she would do as
much as anybody.’
“ ‘ No, she wouldn’t,’ sho in
sisted.
“ Then I said to her : ‘ Well,
just you peep through the blinds
and see if sho doesn’t treat me as
a worthy man dosorves to bo
treated ;’ and 1 haven’t the slight
est doubt but she is now watching
to note the result of my call. ”
The speaker was what the ordi
nary observer would call a tramp.
The lady at the door of whose
home he had culled, replied i
“ Did sho say that ?”
“ That's what I understood her
to say, ma’am.”
“ 1 will prove to you that sho is
what all the neighbors know her
to be—u false, good-for-nothing
creature. Sit right down here on
the porch, where sho cannot help
seeing you, and, if you will do
your part, we will make her feel
ashamed to ever show her face in
the community again.”
When the sun went down four
hours later the tramp was still
there, doing his part to refute a
neighbor’s slander, and a smile on
his face indicated that he was well
satisfied with the result that he
was achieving.—Chicago Tribune.
