On the evening of December 24th, the four Sunday schools of Winder—Meth odist, Baptist, Christian and Piesbyte rian, united in having a—what shall I call it? A Christmas tree, a Christmas wagon, or both? Both I suppose; for jnst iu front of the pulpit was one of the most beautifully painted wagons I have ewer seen, whioh was furnished for the occasion by Mr. T. A. Maynard. From front to rear of the wagon, on each side, long bows extended from which were suspended innumerable pro. senta for the little folks, and those of more mature years, while a little in the backyard stood two beautiful ever greens loaded with their precious bur dens of sweets and handsome gifts. In the centre of the wagon sat Santa Clans, wrooking back and forth, and looking, with his hoary hair and snow— bespangled apparel as if he were a fresh impos tation from the icy regions of the poles. A number of hvmns were sung, a fervent prayer was offered, an appro priate talk upon Christmas was made by the new pastor of the Methodist church, Rev. Mr. Quillian, a Christmas anthem was beautifully rendered by a class of little girls, and the distribution of gifts began Every now and then Santa Claus would alight from his wagon and pas? among the audience, talking to the children. One little girl who had received a handsome doll, see ing him coming towards her, eagerly pressed her way to tho aisle where he would pass and holding np the doll said: “See! See! Santa Claus, what a beauti ful doll you have brought me! Thank yon! Tank you!” Another turned up a rose-bad mouth to be kissed; and if the writer had been übiquitous he per haps would have seen many other such incidents. Every thing seemingiy passed off well, but if yon had gone to the church on Sunday morning you would have felt that the affair had been a desecration of God’s house. Pools of spittle, quids of tobacco, drippings from tapers, cracked nuts, raisins, orange peel and candy were trampled over the floor and carpet 'till I doubt whether they cau ever be cleaned. Even the disgusting evidence of a drunken debauch was left upon the floor. To say that it was thoughtlessness on the part of those who did these things will hardly excuse for the desecration. The writer is utttrly opposed to having Christmas trees in a church for many reasons beside this one The home is the place for them. Not A Christian. Mr. H. A. Pass, Bowman, Ga. writes:** One of my children was very delicate and we despaired of raising it. For months my wife and I could hardly get a night’s rest untill we began the use of Pitts’ Carminative. We found great relief from the first bottle." Pitts’ Carminative acts promptly and cures permanently. It is pleasant to the taste, and children take it without coaxing. It is free from injurious drugs and chemicals Christian Church. TWO POINTED QUESTIONS ANS WERED. What is the use of making a better article than your competitor if you can not get a better price for it ? Ans.- As there is uo difference in the price the public will buy only the better, so that while our profits may be small on a single sale they will be much greater in the aggregate. How can you get the public to know your make is the best? If both articles are brought promin nently before the public both are certain to be tried and the public will very quickly pass judgment on them and use only the better one. This explains the large sale on Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy. The people have been using it for years and hare found that it can always be depended upon. They may occasionally take up with some fash ionable novelty put forth with exagg erated claims, but are certain to return to the one remedy that they know to be reliable, and for cough, colda and croup there is nothing equal to Cham berlain’s Cough Remedy. For sole by H. C. Poole, Winder, Ga. The Banquet. We the yonug men of Winder wish to return onr appreciations to Mr. and Mrs. Jackson for their kindness shown ns at their home on the evening of the banqnet. So far as they were oonnoc ted with the affair every thing was in deed pleasant. Bat we wish to say far ther that there were oonneoted with the oooasion some things whioh we did net appreciate and whioh we consider an imposition on the home and the yonng people of Winder. And we feel it would not be out of place to mention this fact. We are indeed sorry that there were some among us WE did not invite and welcome, though they seemed to be welcomed by a few.
