Poole, Winder, O a; Jealousy. t Jealousy or envy, which ever we may oall it, has blotted out more pleasure in life than any one thing that can be mentioned. It works in different ways. First we have a dear friend we have learned to love and coufiide in. Finally we find someone that friend likes bet ter and day by day we see him or her drifting away. No words we say can draw the friend back and we become jealous and speak all manner of evil simply because that frioud appears to think more of another than us. If we all could rise above the little jealouies how much better our lives would be. Agaiu we find people who are more en tertaining than we, we see people visit them who care nothing for us then we become envious and say all kinds of hard things to ruin their reputation. We who have nothing to do sit aud watch our friends or our neighbors. If we see a young man go there we run all over town and toll it and make some groat mountain of nothing. We who have boys to raise should treat all boys kind who are away from friends and loved ones. We know not how soon our boys may go away and need the friendship of others. But we have so many envious or jealous people who thiuk of nothing good because there is no purity in them. They think it is terrible to see a woman invite young men to their house and help to elevate and encourage them in the struggle of life. Gossipping tongues are all caused from jealousy. Imagination fills our minds with jea lousy and we stand off and see people talkiug to others and we begin to imagine they are there for no good because we are uot pure ourselves. We Become so jealous because they are not with us and we scatter the news abroad, uot as it should be but to suit ourselves. Some day we will all be knowu in our true light. Leave base minds to harbor suspicion and small ones to trace out defects. Let ours be a nobler ambition, for en vious is the mind that suspects. There are many things that could be said on jealousy, but we all know that jealous ies are as cruel as the grave. The grave only covers the dead and jealousy ruins the living. It takes the good name from persons, makes us lose confidence in our friends. Deep down in the human heart is all kinds of thoughts and wheujthe cord of confidence is broken ’tis seldom if ever mended again. How many homes could be found to day in our own beautiful town where some jealous sperit has uot said something evil, if all reports are true. We have no idea one-tenth if any are true. Tis an old saying that an idle mind is the devils workshop and we have found it a true saying. There are so many who do nothing that when they see others prosper they become jealous 1 We hope all jealousy and envy and gossep will cease in our town this year and that we all will try and do our du*y and live as God requires and de mands us.
