Chancellor Bjggs, of the University, lectured here last Thursday evening to an appreciative audience on the subject of “Higher Education” and an appeal to the young men of the state to stand by the State University and pitronizi it. The following officers were elec ted: Prof A .T. Woodruff, president; Win. A. H lie, vice president and treas ure; Wm. A. Jackson, secretary and critic: Jno H. Maynard, serge uit at a-ms; J. L Green, chaplain. After some discussion over the name for the society Demostheau was deoid ed on. The society, will meet every F’ri day night and is to b) secret except at its public meetings. The subject tor discussion at last meeting was ‘ ‘Resolved That whisky has caused more trouble and deaths than war.” The speakers on the affirmative were J. L. Green, Clifford Holliday and Guy Kilgore and on the uegative Wm. A. Hale, Jno H. Maynard and Prof. Jaoobs The nega tive side was winner.
