Prof, and Mrs. Moss, of Thompson’s
Mills, above Hoscton, spent a while this
week in Winder with friends. Prof.
Moss taught here in ’93 and is one of

Mr. L. E. Herrin, of Pendergrass, is
assisting his brother, Mr. W. J. Herrin

Mrs. I. M. Watson and two children, of

izen of Chattooga county, returned
home last Monday after a visit of sev
eral days to Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Arnold
of our city. He was greatly pleased with

last Friday afternoon for the public.

and his many friends predict for him
a bright future as a lawyer.

Two old colored women of our town
died last week. One was the wife of
George Coseby and the other of Bill
Cook. They had both been sick for
some time—Gearge’s wife for five years.
George requests us to say for the benefit
of his many colored friends, that his
wife’s funeral will be preached at the
colored Baptist church on 4th Sunday in
June

Women’s Missionary So -
ciety
The annual meeting of the Women’s
Missionary Society on the Gainesville
district will convene at the Methodist
chcurh in Winder this evening, May 11.
There will be an exercise conducted
by the children, also the address of wel
come and reception to the lady delegates
same evening at church.
Business meeting to hear reports
from different societies of district will
be hold Friday and Satuarday. Sun
day, R9V. B. F. Fraser of Atlanta will
preach the annual sermon at 11 o’clock.
All the people are cordially invited to
attend all these meetings.
There will be no collection taken up
Thursday night and it hoped the house
will be full to hear the children.
A Soldier’s Widow.
Mrs. Parnell has been an invalid for a
long time and has not walked in twenty
years. She is a good old woman and
has the respect and sympathy of all the
people of Winder. On Christmas day
last a class of Sunday Bchool boys pre
sented her with a nice present. The
following is the reply she sent them:
Remember all at> you pass around,
That I am the poorest one in town.
A Soldier’s widow all alone;
No home on earth to call my own;
But in a little hut close by,
Where I so often rock and cry.
’Tis twenty years since I could walk.
Bat thank the Lord I still can talk
