Success to The Economist.
An editor prints his paper to give his
patrons the news of the day and for the
money there is in it. He is presumed
to know of what he writes, and he gen
erally does. When he writes as he does

without fee or hope o? reward, that
“Chamberlain’s Congh Remedy acts

honest expression, worthy of credence,

After a five week’s illness of typhoid
fever, Miss Mattie, the If? year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Giles,
died at her home near Aubarn, on the
morning of November the 30. She bore
her suffering without a murmur and
met the summons with a serene faith in
Him who is our all and above all. She
was the pride of fond parents who have
our profound and heartfelt sympathy in
their sad hours of sore affliction. She
was diligent, studious, devoted to duty
and ambitious to develop herself into
the highest type of Christian woman
hood; but her bright day closed in its
early morning, leaving her infant puri
ty and childish innocence unmarred.
Self-respect, meekness and modesty
were the dominating elements, that
made her truly a strong, deep andearn
• t character. Her generous, unselfish
disposition and kind, gentle manners
had endeared her to all; and when the
death angel invaded our midst and
summoned this lovely girl of so much
promise, from earth, our hearts were
saddened and our eyes were dimmed
with tears. To know a few such char
acters is the privilege of a life time.
On that beautiful Thanksgiving morn
ing while millions of earnest prayers
were ascending in profound gratitute
to a just God who looks with tender
.mercies on a sin-cursed world, it was
not unmeet that her Bpirit, pare and
spotless, should leave the tired sufferer
and return to Him who gave it. Though
her seat is vacant, her voice is silent and
her genial smile we shall never see
a ;ain, yet we cannot dismiss to her
“chamber in the silent halls of death;’
bat inspired by the purity and nobility
of her character, we 6hall ever be guid
ed by the foot-prints she left along life’s
short journey, and will, as a last sad
tribute, tenderly twine around her
memory, garlands woven from the
sweetest flowers of friendship and love.

L. B. N. Cochran Dead.
We are called upon again this week
to chronicle another sudden death, that
of Mr. L. B. N. Cochran who dropped
dead Wednesday morning at the home
of Mr. S. W. Bailey, who lives at the
George Robison place near Big Spring.
Mr. Cochran had carried a load of cot
ton to Salem aud was returning home,
when he was taken suddenly ill while
passing Mr. Bailey’s residence. He
asked to be helped from the wagon, but
he expired before his assistants could
carry him to the house. Heart failure
was the cause.
Mr. Cochran was a substantial citizen
of Oconee who resided near Antioch
church and his funeral took place from
that church on Thursday morning, El
der T. M. Foster conducted the obse
quies.
The deceased leaves a wife and sever
al chMdren besides a host of friends to
mourn his loss. We extend sympathy
to the bereaved.
The above is taken from the Oconee
Enterprise. We had known Mr. Coch
ran since our boyhood days as oueoi onr
friends and wo read the news of death
with mnch sadness. The Economist
sincerely sympathizes with the bereaved
family.

HEIR TO LARGE FORTUNE.
Mr John L. Harris, of Near Win

From His Attorney That the
Court Decided in His Favor.
Mr John L Harris, who lives about
three miles from. Winder, in Chandler’®
district of this county, and who is one>
of the leading citizens aud farmers of
this section has just received noth©
from his attorney at Fresno, California,
that the courts of that state had decid
ed he was the legal heir to a large for
tune left by the death of his father, who
went to California many years ago and
died there a few years sine*.
His father had accumulated quite a
snm in that state at the time of hi
death and Mr. Harris will receive from
this accumulation forty or fifty thous
and dollars. There was a bitter fight
made by other parties in California to
deprive him of what rightfully was his,
and the case has been in the courts of
that state for nearly twelve months
Mr Harris lives near where he was
born and has lived in that neighbor
hood all his lite. He is one of Jackson
county’s best and most honorable citi
zens and a man of good basiness judg
ment. He ha* been a regular subscrib
er to The Economist since its first issue
and we sincerely congratulate him on
his good fortune.
QUESTION AN SWERED.
Yes, August Flower still has the
largest sale of any medicine in the civ

mothers’ never thought of using any
thing else for Indigestion or Bilionsness.-
Doctors were scarce, and they seldom
