" r 1 Ilat ' V 9 of Tennessee, but came *** fn!u^^ en a young man and y identified with this portion of WINDER, JACKSON COUNTY, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1500. the state from that time until his death in 1890. ••i*ss£.7 : Mrs. McNorton became a member of Bethabra Baptist ohurch, in the county of her birth and near where she was raised, when only fourteen years of age and lived a consistent member ’till her death, a period of fifty years, never changing her membership during all that time. She was truly a Christian, charitable, kind and sympathetic. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. John J. Strickland, of Athens, Mrs. Oscar Brown and Miss Minnie McNorton; also a step sou, Mr. A M. McNorton, of Starsville, Georgia. The best medical skill that could be had was with her during her illness. Her children were devotedly attached to her, and although she was perfectly reoonc led to doparr for a brighter home beyond the skyes, talking whn loved ones aud friends about death and re questing toat the 231 Psalm be read at her burial service, the oul/ regret seem ed to be in leaving her children. Mrs. McNorton had been living in Winder for the pas* three years and her death was learned with much sadness by her many friends here who loved her for her gentleness and Christian virtues. She was interred at the old family cemetery in Oconee, the fnneral services being cond acted by Rev H. R. Barnard, of Athens, assisted by Revs. 3. W. Arnold and J. F. Jackson of onr city. A check for nearly $70,000.00 was drawn on the Bank of Winder by a gen tleman well known hero. Other checks for $12,01)0.00. $6,000.00, $5,000.00, $3,000.00 and several for st,- 000 00 and $4,000 00 all within a few days of each other aggregating with oth er smaller checks over SIOO,OOO 00, all of which were promptly paid. Mr. James Lanier, who had been lin gering for sometime with oousnmptioD, died last Fiiday morning at the home of his lather, Mr. J. W. N. Lanier, six miles below Watkinsville. The remains were interred on Sunday at the old Elder burying groaud, Elder J. H. Wood conducting the last sad rites. Mr. Lanier was a member of Antioch Christian church and was about thirty years old. The deceased leaves a wife, who be fore marrying was Miss Trilla Marable, whom we understand is in a bad state of health. We extend sympathy to the bereaved ones.—Oconee Enterprise. ROBBED THE GRAVE. A startling incident of which Mr. John Oliver of Philadelphia, was the subject, is n .rrated by him as follows: “1 was in a most dreadful condition. My skin wes almost yellow, eyes baa ken, tongue coated, pain continually in back and side.!, no appetite—gradual ly growing weaker day by day. Three physici is bad given me up.
