Died In Indian Territory.
Mr, Daniel Smith, who lived in Win
der for a number of years, bat who ac
companied his Sou-in-law and daughter,
Dr. and Mrs W. E. Enioe, to Ardmore,
Indian Territory, year bafore last, died
lat their home on February 221 He
was a good old man and had many
friends here who will regret to learn of
his death. He was the father of Mr.
P. P. Smith of our city.

in Monday and renewed their papers

Cotton Factory.
The officers of The Winder Banking
Cos. are still at work on the cotton fac
tory and have some fine propositions
from parties in New York and Philadel
phia. Enough subscriptions have been
securjd with the propositions from the
adove places to make the building of a
mill here aud assured fact. Within the
next HO days matters will materealize
and work will begin.
Elder E. L. Sholnut, pastor of the
Christian church at Athens, was in
Winder for a few hours last Thursday.
He went down to Chapel church to con
duct the funeral service at the burial of
Mr. G. F. Hardigree.

Mr. Joseph Strang assistant Indus
trial Agent of the S. A. L. road was
here first of the week from Portsmouth,
Va., to assist our people in getting up a
cotton mill, Col. Tompkins, of Charlotte,
N. C., was also here this week on the
samt line. He is one of the greatest
cotton mill organizes in the South. The
Industrial department of the S. A. L.
railroad is disposed to do all iu its power
to assist the people along its line in es
tablishing manufacturing enterprises.
The trouble with some towns is they
don’t know a good thing whan they see
it.
I have opaned up a full stock of Gen

Miss May Christian of Harbins, Geor
gia, and Mr. Marshal Morgan, of near
Winder, were united in marriage on
February 24th. The bride is a daugh
ter of Mr. A. C. Christian, one of the
good citizens of Gwinnett county, aud
the groom is a son of Mr. J. T. Morgan,
one of the clever aud leading farmers,
of House’s district. The Economist
extends congratulations to this young
couple, with the hope that their married
life may be one of much happiness and
long duration.

The annual celebration of Founders
Day will come on Tuesday night, March
13. For that occasion, Rev. L. T. Reed
of Watkiusville has been secured; and
he will deliver a lecture prepared espec
ially for the occasion. The public is

The Executive committee of the Pop
ulist party of Jackson oouuty, and any
other Populists who can come out, are
requested to meet in Jefferson on the
Ist Tuesday in April to attend to some
