Coach Gets Loose From Engine and Goes at Rapid Rate Un til Jumping Track. Several Badly Hurt. The Gainesville, Jefferson &Southoru railroad had a coach to get loose from the engine last Monday night at Bell inout which resulted iu a terrible smashup and came near causing the death of eight or more parsons The two trains which meet there at night change engines. While the change was being made the coach on the maine line from Winder to Gaines ville broke loose. The brake broke and it is down grade from there to the river. The train must have ruu at the rate of 60 or 70 miles per hour. The coach jumped the track just rfter crossing the river having come a distance of about four miles. Conductor Wherry, Editor Holder of Jefferson, Sheriff Stephens and deputy Sheriff Appleby, or Jackson coun;y. and C. C. McAlister of Gainesville were all badly hurt but it is hoped none of them seriously. The mail clerk and express messenger jumped from the train after it had gone about half the distance. The latest report from those hurt is to the effeot that they are all getting on very well. It is a great wonder that any of tho passengers es caped instant death. The ancients believed that rheuma tism was the work of a demon within a man. Any one who has had an attack of sciatic or inflammatory rheumatism will agree that the infliction is demoni ac enough to warrant the belief. It has never been claimed that Chamberlain s Pain Balm would cast out demons, but it will cure rheumatism, and hundreds bear testimony to the truth of this statement. One application relieves the pain, and this quick relief which it affords is alone worth its cost. For sale by, Winder Drug Cos., Commencement Program £■ Perry-Rainey College. Saturday night. I consider it not only a pleasure but a duty I owe to my neighbors to tell about the wonderful cure effected iu my case by the timely ue of Chamberiaiu’s Col ic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. I have no dread of what Is called for by the instinct of mankind, Nor think I that God’s world will fall apart Because we tear a parchment more or less. Truth is eternal, But her eulluonce, With endless chauge, is fitted to the hour; Her mirror is turned for ward to reflect T le promise of tho future, not the past. He who would win the name of truly groat Mast understand his own ago and the next, And make the present ready to fulfill I'.s prophecy, and with the future merge Goully aad peac dully, as wave with wave, The future works out great men’s pur poses; The present is enough for common roals, Who, never looking forward, are indeed Mere clay, wherein the footprints of their age Aro petrified forever; Better those Who lead the blind old giant by tho hand From out tho pathless desori where he gropes, And set him onward in his darksome way. Ido not fear to follow out the truth, Albet along the precipice’s edge. Let us speak plain; there is more foroe in names The most men dream of, and a lie may keep Its throne a whole age longer, if it skulk Behind the shield of some fair-seeming name. Let us call tyrants tyrants, and main tain That only freedom comes by grace of God, . . And all that conies not Dy grace must fall; For men in earnest have no time to waste In patching fig leaves for the naked truth, James Rus-ell Lowell NO 16.
