Winder ought to have a carnival every year. • Winder is improving faster than any town in Georgia. Start your children to school next Tuesday, Sept. 4th. Mr. Frank McElroy, of Bogart, gave ns a pleasant call Monday. Mr. J. H. Strickland, of near Jeffer son, was in the city Tuesday. There were a great many interesting exhibits at the carnival and fair. Every one who attended the carni val enjoyed it and was well pleased. Crops in many sections are ruined from the extreme dry and hot weather. The carnival proved a big sucoess and everything passed off without any trou ble. All goods at Stanton & Bondurant’s must go in the next 30 days at cost r. id below. Mr. Geo. W. Camp, of Watkinsville, was in rur city Tuesday and made us a pleasant call. Say! Don’t forget Friday, August 3lst. is the day to go to Tallulah Falls on the excursion. DeLaPerriere. Mrs. W. T. Hamer and little daugh* ter, of Atlanta, returned to tneir home to-day after a visit of a week with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Jackson. Mrs. Julia C. Hunter, of Wiluer, died Tuesday and was hurried Wednesday. She was 74 years old and was the widow of Wm. Hunter, who died about 30 ye irs ago. Whitehead, of Wilner, bought the beautiful home of Mr. Hutchins on Church street today and will move here auother year, Mr, White head is one of the very successful and large farmers of Chandler’s dist. The annual meeting of the Georgia Universalist Convention will be held with the Mulberry Universalist church three miles from Winder, beginning to morrow aud closing Sunday. There will be delegates from all over the state and some able preachers. It will be an interesting meeting and all are cordi ally invited to attend the services. Dunn, Lyle & Cos. have great faith in good prices for cotton this season. Read their local in this issue and also their cotton letter. This is an interesting matter for all farmers who will have cotton to put on the market. A New Brick Building. Dr. J. C. DeLePerriere has begun the erection of a large two-story brick build ing on Broad street which will have on the first floor two store rooms aud a bank. He is a native of old Jack son but has been a citizen of Gwinnett for several years. He is an old friend of our boyhood days aud we were truly glad to shake his hand.
