Mrs. Robert Camp was hostess to Bridge club. Tuesday, April 12th. Missionary Society of the Chris tian church met at the church par lors. Wednesday, April 13th. Mrs. J. M. Aiken entertained her sewing club and a number of friends at a sewing party. Thursday, April 11th. Mrs. Edgar DeLaPerriere is en taining the Junior Priscilla Sewing club and other friends. Friday, April lath. Class on Christian Citizen ship will he held at City Hall, con ducted by Col. R. B. Russell, Jr. Saturday, April 16th. Regular meeting of the Teachers’ club. Theater Party. ■v One of the most enjoyable events last -jveek was the theater party on Friday ■evening given by Miss Sara Hayes to the Bacfcelor Girls club. After the guests attended the picture show they 'were served refreshments at the drug store. The purty was Composed of Misses Sadie Harris, Mattel Jackson, House, Marie Herrin, Mon tine Robinson, Evelyn Radford, Char lotte McCants, Myrtle Booth and Sara Hayes. "Young Matrons Club. Mrs. J. J. Wilson was hostess at an unusually lovely party last Thursday -afternoon, given for the Young Mat ron’s club. The interior of this lovely Rome was quite attractive on this oc casion, the decorations being wistaria and wood violets, and a large quantity -was used. Punch was served to the guests as they arrived and after sev eral interesting games a tempting salad course was served. The guests present were Mesdames H. A. Carithers, R. H. Kimball, Ralph Smith, Roy Smith, Fleming Thompson, Robert Camp, E. R. Harris, George H. Fortson, W. L. DeLaPerriere, Reba Vouderleith, Howard Rogers, Hubert Eberhart, G. C. Moseley, J. M. Aiken, J. F. Broome, S. H. Ware and O M. Jackson. "Mrs. Camp Entertains Bridge Club. A pleasant event of this week was ! Monday afternoon when Mrs. Robert Camp delightfully entertained the Bridge club at her apartment on Ath ens street. The tables which were ar ranged for the games Avere each deco rated with baskets of pink rose buds, candy and salted nuts in comports were also placed on the tables. Moseley, Parks Stewart, A. D. McCurry, J. J. Wilson and J. W. Grif fith Mrs Quillian Hostess to Senior Priscilla Sewing club. Quite a jolly affair cf the past week was Friday afternoon when Mrs. H. P. Quillian entertained the Senior Pris cilla club at a sewing party. Rate in the afternoon the hostess, assisted by her daughter, Miss Annette Quillian, served a delicious salad course. Benefit Party for Local Chapter Red Cross Work A series of benefit parties are to be given for the Red Cross work in this county the first to be at the home of Mrs. Paul Roberts on Tuesday after noon, April 19, from 3 :30 to 7 :00 o’clck. Every man, woman and child, who is interested in the Red Cross work, is invited to attend these parties. Come and bring your sewing, play games or for a social chat. Those who haven’t time for either of these, drop by and be served. Those who wish tables to be reserv ed please call the following committee: Mesdames Robert Camp. Ralph Smith and Bessie Edwards. Refreshment committee: Mesdames H. T. Flanigan and Grover Moseley. Mrs. W. A. Bradley, treasurer. An admission fee of 25 cents will lie eharged. Henson-Ilurson. Mrs. Louise M. Henson, of this city has announced the engagement of her daughter, Maude Louise, to Mr. James j Bryan Burson, also of this city. The : marriage will be solemnized in May. Mr. and Mrs. L. Dow McNabb, Jr., Entertain at Five O’clock Dinner. Mr. and Mrs. L. Dow McXabb, Jr., entertained at a 5 o'clock dinner Sun day in honor of the birthday of Mr. W. W. Parks, of Auburn, Ga. During the evening many friends called, and promptly at the given hour, dinner was served, consisting of the many delight ful courses that are so abundant dur ing the sprang; time. The out-of-town guests included Mrs. J. I’. Erwin and Mr. Paxon Erwin, of Carrollton, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Pendergrass, of Atlan -1 fa, and Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Parks, and Miss Mary Alice Pendergrass, of Auburn. Delightful Social at First Baptist Church. i Last Friday afternoon a delightful social tea was given by the Candler Street Circle of the W. M. IJ. of the First Baptist church. It was given complimentary to Rev. and Mrs. W. H. Faust, on their decision to remain in Winder. Other Baptist preachers and their wives of the city were included in the honor guests. Refreshments of sandwiches and punch were served during the after noon. Miss Runette Benton gave an inter esting reading, and Mrs. Mac Potts, Mrs. Joe Estes, Mrs. Guy Jackson, Miss Runette Woodruff and Miss Sue Dell Perry rendered delightful vocal and instrumental musical selections. Rev. W. H. Faust made appropriate remarks, expressing appreciation for the confidence of the church in him, and pledging himself to work for the progress of the various activities of the church. Mrs. L. A. House is president of the Candler Street Circle and she with her £olaborers are doing a splendid work in behalf of the W. M. U. of the church. Mrs. Aiken Entertained at Sewing Party. Mrs. J. M. Aiken complimented her sewing club and a number of friends with a lovely party on Wednesday af ternoon. The decorations used in the rooms where the guests were enter tained were decorated with vases and baskets filled with beautiful roses, and in the front hall way the punch bowl was placed on a table which was at tractively decor&ted with roses and English dogwrfKl. Mrs. Bush Jackson and Mrs. Reha Vonderleith served punch and after the sewing hour a delicious salad course was served. Among the guests were Mesdames Cash, Wootten, Barber, Bailey, Hig gins, Moseley, Wilson, Bagwell, John Williams, Xiblack, Vonderleith, Hor ton. Hargrove, Edwards, Almond, Rad ford, R. L. Rogers. Jackson, J. F. Jackson and Graddick. Dr. L. W. Hodges it at Mountain City in Rabun county this week com pleting a summer home that he is building there. * • Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Had den. • * Little Miss Samille Smith has re turned from Atlanta where she under derwent an operation for the removal of her tonsils, she was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Vella Mae Smith, and Misses Berta and Willie Meadows and Dr. C. B. Almond. • • Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Ferguson and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Roger?? left Wednesday for Rome to attend the senior recital of Miss Beulah Ferguson, who graduates at Shorter College this year. • • Mrs. W. T. X. & I. college. • • It is reported around the court house that business must he picking up con siderably, as Cas hßnggett is now eat ing three meals a day. Heretofore he has been making out on two. • • Mr. and Mrs. Adler George and baby, of McDonough, Mrs. R. D. Mitchell, and children and Mrs. Garlinck of At lanta motored to Winder Sunday and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Craft. * • • Miss Irene Hill, who has been clerk ing in the office of the *Clerk of the Superior Court of Barrow county, has resigned that position and has accept ed a position as bookkeeper for the Klimax Overall Cos. We are in receipt of a letter from our friend, J. V. Settle, of St. Louis, who inquires about his friends here, compliments the X'ews on its excel lent make-up and typography and as sures us that Winder is still the best place in the world to live. • * From reports coming into this city from the country between here nnd Gainesville it would appear that Cliff DeLaPerriere and Ralph Herrin are trying to smash some cross country hiking record. They left here Sunday in their cut down flivver but deciding that this mode of travel was entirely to slow they abandoned the racer up about Oak Grove church, 17 miles, more or less, from Winder, and walked home. Sauls received a letter last week from her father, Dr. G. H. Dye. of Mill Creek, Okla., in which he stated that they had a big frost and plenty of ice on the first of April, and that all of the fruit was killed. This makes the third year the fruit has. been killed in that country. Dr. Dye left this country about twenty-one years ago; he is getting along fine.
