Miss Cordelia Coffer
Entertained.
One of the prettiest of the summer
pa-ties was that of last Friday even
ing. when Miss Cordelia Coffer enter
tained in honor of Miss Gertrude Skel
ton, who has been teaching at Bear
Creek this summer sau was returning
to her home in Lawrenceville. A pro

Snlendid Picnic.
One of the most enjoyable occasions
of this eommuritv was the picnic given
for Bear Creek school at Draper’s pas
ture last Friday, August 26th. The
■school closed that day. and we glndly
sa- that it has been splend Mv taught
this year by Mis Gertrude Skeitou of
Lawreneeville. She has won the love
■4nd esteem of parents and pupils and
will be remembered for years by her
many friends in this community.
'there were about a hundred present
at the picnic and everybody enjoyed
the day thoroughly. The morning
hours were spent in fishing, talking and
laughing. At the noon hour the feast
was spread at the spring under the
shade of the beautiful oaks, and the
table was loaded with good things to
eat, The ladies of that community are
adepts at baking pies and cakes. If
anyone present did not enjoy that din
ner they had better consult a doctor,
and if they did not have to consult a
doctor afterwards they need have no
fear of over-eating.
May we have many more like that
one. One who was there.
Mrs. L. A. Fortson
Hostess.
Mrs. L. A. Fortson delightfully en
tertained at a small party last Friday
afternoon in honor of her sister. Miss
Nelle Campbell, of Hartwell, and Miss
Katie Lou Oglesby, of Elberton. Rook
was played during the afternoon. Af
ter the games, a delicious salad course J
was served. Those present were Misses j
Campbell, Oglesby, Harris, Louise
House, Sara Joe Roberts, Gladys Eav
enson, Mary Quatterman, Alice Eugen-,

Entertains.
Miss Ermine Thomas entertained de
lightfully last Saturday evening for
Miss Allene Gower, of Grayson, Miss
Helen Griflfin, of Athens, and Miss
Rogers, of Atlanta, house guests of Mrs
Hosea Williams. A number of friends
enjoyed the occasion. Delicious re
freshments were served during the ev
ening.
Bacon Fry Given by
Young Matrons Club.
One of the most enjoyable affairs of
the week was the “bacon fry” given in
honor of Miss Sudie Wilson, the at
tractive guest of Mrs. Fleming Thomp
son, by the Young Matrons club. Af
ter motoring out to Appleby’s Mill and
enjoying a delightful swim, the guests
wandered down to “The Rock.”
Mrs. Grover Moseley
Hostess.
Mrs. Grover Moseley entertained the
members of the Young Matrons club
and a few other friends Monday after
noon. The rooms where the guests as
sembled were brightly adorned with
richly-tinted garden flowers. After the
games an elegant salad course with tea
was served.
Forty-five members were present on
Tuesday at the enthusiastic initial
meetings of the four local circles of
Methodist women. The following chair
men were elected for the various cir
cles: Mrs. W. N. Bailey, Mrs. L. E.
Herrin, Mrs. C. B. Mott, Mrs. Maude
Bondurant. The officers for the entire
local work are Mrs. A, A. Camp, pres
president; and Mrs. Will Herrin, sec
ident; Mrs. George DeLaPerriere, vice
etary- treasurer.
Mrs. Niblack Hostess
On Thursday afternoon, Mrs. C. O.
Niblack entertained at her home on
Athens street, in honor of her house
guests, Misses Norine Swanson, of
Perry, and Mozelle Tumlin, of Mari
etta.
Attractive decorations were wrought
with brilliant colored garden flowers.
The very interesting game of “Alpha
bet” was enjoyed, after which a deli
cious salad course was served.

Mrs. Lester Moore
Honored.
On Tuesday afternoon Mesdames
Ware, and Niblack were hostesses at a
reception given at the home of Mrs. W.
( L. Blastngame in honor of Mrs. Lester
i Moore, a recent bride.
In the spacious parlors and hallway
were cut flowers and ferns in profusion
After the guests assembled, the bride
descended the stairway to the strains
of Lohengrin wedding march preceded
by the little cupid, Jean Kimball, and
the little flower girl, Jane Carithers
In this unique way Mrs. Moore was in
troduced to the guests. After which
| several interesting games of heart dice
were enjoyed.
A delicious salad course was served.
About sixty guests were entertained
during the afternoon.
Mrs. J. W. Griffetb
Hostess.
One of the prettiest affairs of the
season was a Bridge party last Thurs
day given by Mrs. J. W. Griffeth, in
honor of Mrs. Horace Nunnally, of
Alabama.
On each table a small basket of
bright, yellow and red zenias were
placed and the rooms were made even
more attractive by huge baskets of
these flowers on pedestals and in ap
propriate nooks.
A delicious salad course which car
ried out the color scheme was served at
the conclusion of the games.
Only those who play bridge were in
cluded in the guest list.
Mrs. Bob Pirkle
Entertains.
The large and beautiful afternoon
party given Saturday by Mrs. Bob Pir
kle, at her apartments on Candler
street, to the Brides club and a few
other friends was one of the prettiest
of the season.
The guests were greeted down stairs
by Mrs. J. W. Griffeth, and after ar
riving on the second floor they were
ushered into the beautiful sun-parlor
by Mrs. Bob Pirkle, which was em
bedded in summer flowers.
After several games an elegant hot
course was served.

Mr. J. H. Baird was called to the
bedside of his mother in Albertville,
Ala., last Friday, on account of her
illness. He returned Monday report
ing her much Improved.
