Social and Personal News birthday party. / Master Lewis Harper Williams de lightfully entertained a number of his little friends at a party last Tuesday afternoon celebrating bis fourth birth day. (lames were enjoyed and stories were told to the children. Punch, cream and candy were much enjoyed during the afternoon. CHILDRENS' PARTY. A jolly occasion of last week was Saturday afternoon when little Miss Jean Kimball celebrated her third birth day with a delightful little party. A fish pond was an enjoyable feature of the afternoon and delicious refresh ments were served. A large number of little tots enjoyed the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Green Entertain Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Green entertain ed about 85 relatives and friends at a happy reunion and bountiful dinner Sttnday at their beautiful suburban Winder home. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Green, of Hoschton, Mr. and Mrs. William Pickrell and children, of Ox ford, Ga.; Mr. .Joe Cheely and family, of Bethlehem: Mr. and Mrs. H. G. McGaughey and children, of Dacula; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Page and family, of Beth lehem, Mr. and Mrs. .Jim Morris am children and Mr. Casper and family, of Statham; Mr. and Mrs. Starr Eason, of Oxford; Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Fuller, Mr. and Mrs. .J. M. Brunswick Stew, fried cliiick en, sandwiches and many kinds of cakes and pies were served at dinner. Coffee, iced tea and lemonade were served as drinks. Music on the grafanola and organ and singing by the young folks were enjoyed in the afternoon. The guests departed declaring they bad spent a most delightful day in spite of the rain which marred the occasion to some ex tent. —One who was present. Mrs. Alma McDonald of Atlanta spent the week-end in Winder with friends. * * Mr. W. A. Harper, of Statham. was in Winder Tuesday and called at the News office. • • Mrs. Maude Bondurant, Miss Alice King and Frank Bondurant spent last Saturday in Athens. • Mr. ’and Mrs. K. A. Willis, of Rock Hill. S. C\. wre recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lyle. * • Miss Rita King, who Is in training at the Athens General Hospital, will spend Saturday here with Miss Alice King. • Mrs. .T. W. Eavenson, of Bowman. Ga„ who has been visiting her children here this week, returned home Wednesday. • • . Mr. R. F. Whaley, of Milan. Ga.. came up this week to visit old friends in this section where he formerly lived. • • Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Robertson and voung son. William, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McWhorter last Sunday. • • Mrs. Georgia Harris and Mr. Glaire Harris spent the past week-end in El berton with Mr. and Mrs. W .O. McMul lan. Mrs.*W. C. Horton is spending sev eral days in Atlanta; while there she will attend the sth congressional dis trict meeting at College Park. Mrs. W. H. Jennings entertained at a lovely party last Friday afternoon, the guests including the members of the Brides club and a few friends. • • Mr. F. H. Norris, a former citizen of this county, but whose home is now in Ben Hill, Campbell county, was in Winder on business one day this week. • • Mr. Ben Juhan, of Athens, spent the week-end with his family in this city. • • Mr. Z, F. Jackson, who has been quite unwell for some time, was car ried to Atlanta the latter part of last week for treatment by Dr. 1\ illis Jones. He is in Wesleyan Memorial hospital. STATHAM NEWS Misses Idalee and Kate Lavender of Athens were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Dooly Sunday. Miss Marion Reynolds entertained as her week-end guest Miss Annie Lou Porter of Colbert. Wall of Sparta is here for a few days witli relatives. Mr. E. 11. Wells, of Wutkiiftsville spent Saturday night and Sunday with Rev. C. W. Henderson. Mr. and Mrs. J. 11. Wall and chil dren spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Perkins. Mrs. J. 1. Burson was called to At lanta to the bedside of her brother. Mr. Weatherly, who is in a serious condi tion. She was accompanied by her son, Frank Bursou. Miss Pearl Lanier very royally en tertained as her week-end gusts Misses Decima Bradberry and Ester Williams of Winder. Miss Ruth Arnold is spending some time in Talbotton as the guest of her sister. Mrs. R. 1,. Siruth. Mr. and Mrs. At Coker of Athens were with their mother, Mrs. Ellen Dooly, Sunday. Miss Annie Mae Smith from Gratis spent the week end here with her sis ter, Mrs. .J. T. Treadwell. Mrs. Georgia McDonald left Monday for Atlanta where she will be the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Luther Cody. E. R. Arnold is spending part of this week in South Carolina. Tlie friends of Mrs. J. I. Burson are sympathizing with her iu the death of her brother. Mr. and Mrs. Emory McElroy of Win der. were the week-end guests of Mr. ml rs. W. D. Whitman. Quite a good many Stathamites at tended the fair at Winder this week. J. J. Horton, of Atlanta, spent part of this week hero- with ids children. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Wright of East ville were here part of this week with relatives. Statham High School News. The following pupils entered school Monday: Ruby and Ruth Gasper, Gy rus Johnson, Avery Bedingfield, Eras tus Kinney. Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah! Gomes timidly from the platform of the auditorium on every Tuesday and Thursday af ternoons as Mrs. Hutchins tests one girl's voice after another. This wee noise is by no means all there is to the Glee Glut). When the girls have recov ered from this unusual happening the volume increases and they sing joyous ly. The manual training class so well begun by Mr. Williams for the boys as been the inspiration for Mrs. Hutch ins to begin organizing a Domestic Science class for the girls, which will oe completed at an early date. Fifth and sixth grades have plann ed their window boxes and they are saving their money to buy bulbs. The fifth grade is making a special study of South America. The pupils of these grades gave a very interesting little program in their room last Friday afternoon. A genuine spirit of generosity, lo.v ilt.v and cooperation was demonstrated by the people of Statham Saturdaav evening at the school festival given to pay for the new sanitary drinking fount recently installed in the school build ing. The school cpmpus was never lovlier than on this occasion. On each side of the walk and hung among the trees were vari-eolored Japanese lan terns. Scattered over the lawn were rustic seats and tables at which the guests were served. Stripped titties banked with a profusion of gol den-rod and autumn leaves form ed the artistic booths from which the refreshments were served. This was indeed a happy occasion for all pres ent. We wish to all those who helped us to make it it success. We ap preciate the presence and help of all the out of town visitors.
