BIRTHDAY PARTY.
'Little Miss Jane Carithers celebrat
ed her fourth birthday last Saturday
afternoon with a delightful little par
ty at the home of her parents on Broad
street. The children played merry
games on the lawn and were served
punch by Misses Xanuelle Starr and
Mary Xelle Frickett. The birthday
cake was then cut and served with
cream. Balloons were given to the
guests for souvenirs. Thirty little folks
were present.
BRIDGE CLUB.
Mrs. G. C. Moseley entertained on
Tuesday afternoon at a bridge party
in honor of Mrs. Walter Cooper who
,lias been the guest of Mrs. J. J. Wil
son the past week.
Asters in pastel shades were used to
decorate the hall and living room. At
the conclusion of the games Mrs. Mose
ley assisted by Miss Claud Coker, serv
ed a delicious salad course with ices.
Those invited" were the members of
the bridge club.

MRS. HARGROVE HOSTESS
AT PARTIES.
Last Saturday Mrs. J. S. Hargrove
was hostess at two delightful parties,
one in the morning and one in the af
ternoon. The lionoree was Miss Lizzie
Howard Freeman of Stephens. The
lovely decorations consisted of golden
glow’ and other bright summer flowers
in beautiful baskets and vases placed
in a graceful arrangement thru out the
reception apartments. Five Hundred
and Bridge were the features of amuse
ment. A most delicious salad course was
served at both parties. The presence of
several out of town visitors added to"
the ‘ehqrni of the affair, they were

the rooms where bridge was played.
Mrs. Wilson received her guests

•dress of black gorgette and Mrs. Cooper
wore yellow gorgette elaborately bead
ed.

MU SICAL PARTY.
Misses Desma Elder and Myrtle Wal
lace entertained at a very unique and
l>eautiful musical party last Thursday
morning, one of tfie most interesting
features was a vocal contest in which
Misses Ruby Woodruff. Margaret Rus
sell, Ernestine Rush and Sallie Mae
McWhorter shared the prize.
Miss Rtulali Ferguson won in the
•“Music Cabinet” contest.
During the morning Misses Ruby
"Woodruff and Margaret Russell de
lighted the party with several beautiful
songs. They were accompanied by

A delicious ice course was served.
\ Mrs. P. A. Flanigan and Mrs. El
der assisted in entertaining.
Miss Myrtle Wallace served punch.
The house was beautifully decorated
•with ferns and vases of pink roses.

s Mr. Ira Ethridge, of near Jefferson
’ was in Winder yesterday, and while
h-te called at the News office and re
membered us very pleasantly with a
renewal to the News for another year.
Mr. Ethridge said that up until now
he has as tine crop cotton that he has
ever had. Evidently he lias been fight
ing the boll weevil.

AL FRESCO PARTY.
Avery enjoyable affair of the past
week was the party at which Mrs. J.
L. Jackson entertained on last Thurs
day ; the guests being the members of
the Young Matrons Federated Club
and other friends.
On arriving the guests were served
refreshing punch and, wafers.
Tables with vases of bright autumn
flowers were arranged for the games
in the grove surrounding the home;
here in the shade of the trees a pleas
ant hour was spent in playing 500.
Later in the afternoon a tempting
salad course with iced tea was esrved.
The hostess was assisted in receiv
ing by Mesdames Byril Harris and Har
ry Millikin.

We, the people in town are puzzled
as to why Mr. Cash Baggett does not
keep the city clock lighted up at night.
It adds much more attraction to the
town, besides being very useful. As to
the general talk in town about this mat
ter. Mr. Baggett would he doing a
great favor o the Winder citizens if
he would keep the light shining in the
