MRS. 'SMITH ENTERTAINS.

together and artistically decorated with
golden rod. Bridge was played for an
hour after which dainty refreshments

MRS. WALKER HONORED.
ffOme of the most enjoyable affairs
given for Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Ralph
Smith’s guest, was the small bridge par
ty given by Mrs. Joseph Broome in her
apartment, on Church street Tuesday
afternoon.
Rea dahlias and cream rose buds
were used in the rooms where the tables
were plared for bridge. After the
games a delicious salad course was
served.
.Those present were Mesdames Kim
ball, Ralph Smith. D. F. Thompson,
Moseley, Burch, Carithers, Wilson,
Howard Rogers, Carter Daniel, Horace
Walker of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lester
Spore, Herschel Smith.
YOUNG MATRONS CLUB.
If Mrs. Ralph Smith entertained the
members of the Young Matrons Club
most charmingly last Thursday after
noon.

BEAUTIFUL RECEPTION.
An event centering the interest of
hosts of friends in our city was the re
ception on Friday afternoon, Sept. 22,
given by Mesdames W. B. Mathews, L.
A. House and Miss Johnnie Lou Smith,
honoring their sister, Mrs. Shank of
Salem, W. Va. The elegant home of
Mrs. Mathews was the scene of the hap
py gathering, and had as its decora
tions quantities of golden rod, snap
dragons and huge ferns.
Two punch bowls were arranged on
the spacious porch and were presided
over by Misses Blanks, Bennett, Jack
son, Millsaps and Mrs. W. O. Perry.
The guests were received in the living
room by Mrs. Mildred Pledger and Mrs.
b. Almond who presented them to
the receiving line, composed of the hos
tesses, the guest of honor, Mrs. Claude
Cook and Mrs. J. M. Dodd. Others as
sisting in this room were Mrs. J. C.
Prtfctt and Mrs. John Hargrove. In
the dining-room Mrs. L. S. Radford
and .Mrs. Bessie Edwards served cream,
and other dainty refreshments, as
sisted by Miss Haygood, Mesdames.
Ross, Graddick. Burch, Holsenbeck,
Autry, Fortson and Millsaps.
Music was furnished throughout the
calling hours by Miss Ora Lee Camp
and Miss Womack, Mesdames Potts
and Bradley.
The presence of Mr. W. I?. Mathews,
the genial host of this palaltial home,
added much to happiness of tlnf occa
sion.
Scores of the friends of these ideal
hostesses and of Mrs. Shank, whom
Winder will always love and claim,
availed themselves of this most delight
ful social event.
Mrs. S. T. Ross is visiting her sister,
Mrs J r R. Bulloch, in Athens. .
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kilpatrick of
Atlanta were the recent guests of Mr.
and Mrs. H. A. Carithers.

Dr. and Mrs. H. P. Quillian have re
turned to their home in this city after
a stay of some days at Indian Spring.
While on their visit they were in an
'automobile accident in which Dr. Quil
lian was severely hurt. AVe are glad
to know that he is able now to be about.

Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Smith and baby
daughter, who have moved here from
Winder, and have an apartment in the
home of Mr. W. D. Holliday. Mr. Smith
has eharge of the Lumber Company in

Settle will be delighted to know that
she is rapidly recovering from an ill
ness that confined her to her home in
this city for several months. She is
now able to get out and is visiting
friends and relatives in Atlanta and
Decatur and will visit other places be
fore returning home.

Tuesday afternoon the'Campflre girls
met with Airs. Paul Roberts, their
guardian, at four o'clock. It was de
cided that the meetings would only he
twice a month instead of once a week.
Avery interesting program was enjoy
ed and business matters discussed. The
Campfire girls are planning to have a
check room at the fair.

monthly meeting Monday afternoon at
the home of Airs. E. E. DeLaPerriere.
The program was in charge of Airs. H.
P. Stanton, superintendent of prison
reform work, who presented this work
most satisfactorily.
