WHAT’S THE MAT
TER WITH COLE?
Mr. W. J. Cole, one of the splendid
citlens of Ben Smith district for many
years, was in Winder on day last week
considerably confused in mind about
the conduct of liis neighbors.
This district when it was a part of
Gwinnett county, was known ns far off
as Texas, and while it had a citizen
ship noted for its generosity, its moral
attributes and its clever and neighbor
ly men and w#men, it was not out of
the ordinary course of events forty and
fifty years ago for the traveler pass
ing through to be halted at his journey
until sitting up drinks for the 25 or
30 natives who congregated at such
places regularly mornings and after
noons.
It was also not an uncommon occur
rence for one invading this territory,
after daylight to he stopped by c6njo
vial parties of ten or more and the
honor conferred on him of being allow
ed to alight from his buggy or from
his horse and delight his audience as
a dancing master.
But since having been made a part
of the new county of Harrow the amus
ing customs of the days of long ago
have been abandoned and forgotten.
The thing that troubles Mr. Cole is
that he moved into anew section of
his district first of this year and was
pleased with his neighbors. lie thought
they were pleased with him and that
he and Mrs. Cole had made a favora
ble impression on them.
Now, to his dismay, all of his neigh
bors are moving off and he is puzzled
to know what this means.
lake most mon he is inclined to place
the blame on Mrs. Cole, gently charg
ing her with perhaps talking too much.
Naturally Mrs. Cole resents such a
grave charge and is threatening divorce
proceedings. She says the idea of a
woman talking too much is an insult to
her sex.
The thing for Mr. Colo to do is to
get some more good neighbors to
move in and apologize to Mrs. Cole for
if there ever was an unjust charge
made against a woman it is claiming
she talks too much. The idea of even
thinking of it is absurd.

“I have taken Cardui for run

THE WINDER NEWS
NOTICE
SO many of our debtors are falling
behind with their accounts, excus
ing themselves behind the cloak of
“hard times,” or taking advantage of
the law by going into bankruptcy, or
moving away, etc., that the time has
come when the undersigned physicians!*
are forced to call a halt, and to ask our
debtors to seriously consider their best
interests before they try to beat their
debts. Therefore this is to give notice
to all that after January Ist, 1923, we
will refuse to practice for any one who
goes into bankruptcy, or who does not
make satisfactory arrangements about
their medical accounts prior to that
time. We shall revise our lists at
that time, placing on it all who have
failed to pay us, and this list will be
furnished to each physician in this sec
tion, so that all “deadbeats” will he
known to each doctor. All parties
whose names appear on this list will be
compelled to pay cash for medical at
tention. So if you owe a medical ac
count we advise you to make satisfac
tory arrangements right away. Nothing
is more certain than aickn©|* mini
death, not even taxes. A serious ac
cident. or a dangerous illness may be
fall you at any hour. If you neglect
this notice you may soon have occasion
to regret it. We regret that it is nec
essary for us to take this step, but self
preservation is the first law of nature,
The expense incident to the practice of
medicine is great, t takes money to
buy medicines, automobiles, gas, oil
tires, pay garage bills, grocery bills,
and taxes and we cannot possibly do
these things on promises that never
come good. We have debts to meet,
taxes to pay, families to feed and to
clothe, and wo cannot meet these nec
essary obligations if we work for noth
ing and pay our own expense. Hence
after January Ist, next, our business
will he CASH to all who fail to make
satisfactory arrangements about their
accounts. Worthy charity cases, how
ever, will he given due consideration.
This will be' our only notice.
