BRIDGE PARTY
TUESDAY EVENING.
Mr. Mrs. Ralph Smith and Mr.
and Mrs. D. F. Thompson entertained
at bridge Tuesday evening at the home
of the Latter. The connecting rooms of
the lower floor were thrown together
and beautifully decorated for the oc
casion. Delicious refreshments were
served after the games.
Those present were Mr. and Mrs R.
H. Kimball. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wilson,
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Broome, Mr. and

ENTERTAINS IN HONOR OF
STATfIAM FRIENDS.

able .iecial events during the gay
Christinas season was that of last
Thursday evening when Miss Louise
House complimented a number of her
Statham friends with a bunco party at
the attractive home of her parents on
Stephens street. The living-room, din
ing-room and music room were thrown
together for this happy occasion and
were beautifully decorated with quan
tities of holly, cedar, mistletoe, red
bells and Christmas wreaths. After a
number of interesting games were
played a lovely salad course with tea
was .served. The hostess was assisted
in receiving and entertaining by her
* faster, Miss Josephine House. The
■guest list, included twenty friends from
Statham, where Miss Louise is one of
the popular teachers in the school.

ENTERTAINS AT BRIDGE
LUNCHEON.
A delightful event of Friday morning
was the Yuletirle bridge luncheon given
hy Miss Mary Louise Johns in compli
ment to Miss Koonce of Atlanta her
house guest.
The reeeption rooms of the lovely
■colonial home were elaborately deco
rated with holly and Christmas ever
greens. f Silver candlesticks holding red
unshaded tapers and comports of red
and green mints were placed on tables
where the games were played.
Miss Johns wore a most becoming
gown of black chiffon velvet. Miss
Koonce was lovely in black velvet with
trimmings of silver lace.
Covers were laid for sixteen guests.
The guests included the young ladies
bridge club. Misses Margaret McWhort
er. Margaret Russell, Kathleen Wilson,
Sybil Millsaps, Josephine House, Ma
bel Jackson, Mary Hayed, Gertrude
Rogers, Elizabeth Kimball, Evelyn
Radford, Marion Koonce, Mrs. Joseph
Estes, Mrs. Clair Harris, Mrs. Jake
Eberhardt.
Miss Johns was assisted in enter
taining by her mother, Mrs. Johns, and
Mrs. Hiram Flanigan.
At !Vne oclock a lovely four-course
luncheon was served.

HONORED WITH BIRTHDAY
DINNER CHRISTMAS EYE.
A beautiful affair and one long to be
remembered by all present was the din
ner on Christmas Eve given to Mr. and
Mrs. J. R. Coker in celebration of Mr.
Coker’s eighty-first birthday and Mrs.
Coker’s seventy-fifth birthday.
The decorations suggestive of the hol
iday season were quite in evidence and
were used most artistically. In the
dining-room the table had as its cen
tral decoration a miniature Christmas
tree and at either end where .the honor
guests were seated were placed the
beautiful birthday cakes, one with 81
burning candles and the other holding
75 burning candles, and suspended
from tjie light were white ribbons with
with the loving words of father and
mother written in gold on them. Also
candlesticks holding red burning tapers
were/placed about at intervals.
An elegant four-course dinner was
served.
Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. J.
R. Coker, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bone of
Atlanta; Misses Genevive and Ruth
Mitchell of Atlanta: Mr.and Mrs. H. A.
Coker of Atlanta; Mrs. Francis Higgin

Mr. Coker is one of the pioneer set
tlers of Barrow county and has a host
of friends throughout the county who
congratulate him and his estimable
wife'on reaching this age and hope they
cam celebrate many more such events.

A lovely Christmas party was the
bridge given Friday evening by Misses
Sybil Millsaps and Kathleen .Wilson,
honoring Miss Koonce of Atlanta, the
attractive house guest of Miss Mary
Louise Johns.
The spacious rooms were effectively
decorated with holly, mistletoe and
poinsettas, the color scheme of red and
green being carried out in every de
tail.
A delightful salad rourse with hot

HOSTESS AT BRIDGE PARTY
MISS KOONCE HONOREE
A lovely event last Veek was Satur
day afternoon when Miss Margaret
Ru&sell honored Miss Marion Koonce
of Atlanta, the popular and attractive
guest of Miss Mary Louise Johns with
a beautiful bridge party. The Christ
mas decorations were used most ef
fectively, the color note of red and
white was carried out in a most
charming way, on each table was a crys
tal basket filled with bright rial gera
niums, also bonbon dishes of delicious
candy were placed on each table.
Following the interesting games of
bridge was the serving of a most tempt
ing luncheon course. Those enjoying
Miss Russell’s delightful hospitality on

HOSTESS.
A most beautiful and enjoyable af
fair'of the Christmas season was the
party given by Mrs. Hiram Flanigan
to the holiday visitors, at the home of
her father on Candler street.
The lovely home was decorated with
a profusion of Christmas evergreen and
silver uhskets filled with beautiful red
roses. At the windows were bright
Christmas wreaths. In the dining
room where delightful, refreshments
were served the table had as its decora
tions a beautiful Christmas tree with
glittering lights and tensil beautiful with
all the gay little ornaments which add
so much to the real Christmas tree.
Red candles lent their shivering lights
to brighten the scene.

One of the most attractive affairs
featured on the holiday social calendai
was the bridge luncheon last Saturday
given by Miss Evelyn Radford in hon

AT LOVELY PARTY.
One among the many delightful so
cial gaities featured on the calendar
during the holidays was the beautiful
bridge party last Thursday afternoon
at which Mrs. J. J. Wilson was the
charming hostess. The honorees were
three attractive visitors, Mrs. Walter
Cooper, Mrs. Robert Camp and Mrs.
Mercer Murray, all of Atlanta.
The living room, dining room and
hall all thrown together for this occa
sion was never more lovely with its
many artistic decorations that are used
at Christmas time to enhance the
(beauty of all and make merry the
hearts of the guests.

; Christmas wreathes, cedar, holly and
poinsettas were profusely and effective
ly used, also bowls of fragrant narcis
si and hyacinths, and candle sticks
holding red burning tapers cast a radi
ant glow over the lovely scene.
Punch was served ijn tin* dining
room from a table which was beauti
fully decorated and on each table ar
ranged for bridge were cut glass dish
es filled with red and green mints.
Top score was made by Mrs. H. A.
Carithers and she was given a lovely
blue glass flower bowl and the conso
lation prize, an incense burner, was
awarded to Mrs. Joe Estes.
After tlie games a lovely salad
course with hot tea was served.

s AT CHRISTMAS PARTY.
One of the prettiest parties of the
holiday season was given by Mrs. Jo
seph Brqoiue last Wednesday afternoon
at her apartment on Church street. Miss
India Niblack, of New York, the guest
of Mr. and Mrs. ('. (). Niblack was the
honor guest on this occasion.
All guests were asked to arrive
promptly at three o’clock and were
ushered into the largo living-room
where tables were arranged for bridge.
On each table were placed miniature
Christmas trees beautifully decorated
and small Christmas boxes filled with
crystalized fruit and candies, and in
each box a sparkler was placed and ail
sixteen were lighted as the honor guest
came into the room. Red roses, poin
settas and narcissi were artistically
Used in the room where the guests were
received as well as in the living room.
Late in tin* afternoon Mrs. Broome
assisted l>y Mesdames Blasiugame and
Kimball served a delicious plate, the
unusual feature of which was tiny

of crackers and toast, filled with cream

Last Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs.
G. C. Moseley delightfully entertained
a number of friends at a bridge party.
The beautiful Christmas decorations of
holly, poinsettas, cedar and mistletoe
wore used in a most artistic and grace
ful arrangement hi the living room and
dining-room where tables were placed
for the games, the color note of red
and green was predominant in every
detail.
After several spirited games dainty
refreshments were served.

IA SURPRISE BIRTHDAY
PARTY.
Quite a crowd enjoyed a birthday
supper last Monday night the 25th of
December by Mrs. Ethel Boswell in
lioifor of her mother, Mrs. J. F. Bea
dles, the 27th of December being her
1 70th birthday.
The house was beautifully decorated,
the birthday cake with its 70 candles,
was in the center of the table, also a
large bouquet of Christmas roses. The
supper was a pound supper for the ol
der people and they all wish her many
more birthdays and she thanks them
for the nice presents. Some of them
wouldn’t come on account of sickness
and these sent her presents.
