Has someone cornered the egg
market or has the little old Georgia
hen gone on strike?
Will The Atlanta Journal please
tell us the condition of the state
t reasu ry ?
One hank a day is the record of
charters granted to state hanks in
the first five days of 1010.
Cotton dropped $4.80 per bale on
the New York market Wednesday
afternoon. A well-organized clique
seems to l>o making efforts to de
press prices.
We believe 11. 1.. Collier, head of
the now notorious Atlanta City
stockade, was mad when he called
Editor Seely a “hypocrite, a liar and
a conceited ass.”
Editor F. L. Seely, editor of The
Atlanta Georgian, is waging a war
on the inhuman practices at the
Atlanta bastile. If what The Geor
gian says about conditions at this
prison I><* true then Atlanta leads
all compcditors in at least one in
stance.
The Atlanta Journal’s cartoonist
pictures the state vaults as bursting
with the coin of the realm. Shame
that all this money should lie idle
while the poorly-paid teacher of
1900 was forced to “cash in” his
certificate of si rvices rendered.
State Senator (J rady on the floor
of the senate at Albany, N. Y-, de
clared the New York Cotton ex
change “the most monstrous gamb
ling institution in the world” and
referred to the “kid-gloved way”
in which Governor Hughes handled
his Wall street clients while he was
making his fight on race-track
gambling.
POLITICS.
Mr. E. F. Maddox has announced
for clerk of the superior court of
Gwinnett county, Mr. E. 8. Gar
ner for sheriff and J. Henry John
son for tax receiver of the same
county. They will at least have
plenty of time to see the voter about
their fitness to serve them.
OUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS.
yf
Resolved, That we will continue
to insist on Fig Tail alley being
widened.
That we will read every line Tom
\\ utson writes on Foreign missions.
That we will tell the truth during
1910, because it is easier and brings
less complications than lying.
That we will lot the Atlanta Jour
nal keep the people posted in regard
to the condition of the slate treas
ury.
That we will leave the reforming,
of the state and the naming of De
catur street to F. L. Seely, < ditor
of the Atlanta Georgian.
Watched the Old Year fade.
A party of young people assem
bled at the home of Miss Tavie
Mathews to set' the old year pass
out and welcome the new. Those
present were Misses Ora and Pau
line Camp, Annie lx>u Jackson,
Edna Bush, Helen Bush, of Athens,
Messrs. Moseley, Robeson, Pledger,
Fortson, Cannon, and Beans.
Pertinent Paragraphs.
(National Rip-Saw.)
A useless thing is always a bur
den.
I would rather be a penny in a
tramp-s pocket than a dollar in the
till of the Finest saloon on earth.
If hell were a financial institution
the devil would h;%ve a choice lot of
financiers to select his help from.
The idiot who tries to do right is
a much letter citizen than the wise
man who has no regard for honesty.
The man who will buy a thing
simply because it is “cheap,”
whether he needs it or not, gener
ally spends a fool’s money.
The girl who thinks more of a
silk dress than a “tidy” home will
make a wife who will think more
of a poodle dog than a baby.
The preacher who measures his
success by the numlier of NEW
members he gets is always a good
financier, hut a very poor servant
of his Master.
If our mothers were as particular
to adorn the character of their
children as they are to beautify
their bodies, we would have a lot
more pure men and women than
we have.

Ihnv to Prepare Turkey—lf the

have enough water to boil over.
Take from the boiler and cut the

and this is always better if cooked
a little before putting in the fowl.
Make egg-bread, making it very
short and stir in sausage or oysters,
or the giblets of the turkey, chopped

ing of cooked rice, one-half cup
butter and oysters, all worked to
gether, and the turkey filled with
it. Bake until quite a delicate
golden brown all over.
