OF OLD WORLD WRITES
OF VOYAGE ACROSS SEA
Piominent Winder Citizen Now Visiting Points Of
Interest In Foreign Countries, and Will Take
Trip Through Holy Land Before Returning.
On Board S. S. “Cedric”.
March 11th, 1013.
Winder News:
One day in New York gives only
a glimpse into that great city. We
visited Wall street, that moneyed
center of this great country; the
cotton exchange, my, my! what ex
citement! Well enough, for it is
there where men get poor and rich
in a moment. The stock exchange
is no little thing, for there billions
pass hands by the hour.
Then we went to the Sub-Treas
ury building, in front of which
George Washington stands in bronze
on the place where he took the oath
April 13th, 1789 that made him
the first president of this great
country. Then the statues of Ben
jamin Franklin, Horace Greely,
Wm. H. Seward, Abraham Lin
coln, but standing out in history
not in bronze, is the fact that a
Georgia boy conceived the idea of a
tunnel under the East river which
made it possible for the suhway cars
as well as the overland to cross.
We took passage on the steamer
Cedric, and are now on board with
2099 passengers and crew.
The last thing to he seen on
American soil is the Statue of the
Goddess of Liberty, standing on a
little neck of ground extending out
into the Hudson, her right hand
lifted high holding a torch, in her
left a book of record clasped to her
left side. Her face is toward the
the seas. This statue was present
ed to our people by the French gov
ernment.
Since leaving New York we have
made no stop. Some of our party
have l>een a little sick —they prefer
red to get off and walk, hut that
was not convenient. Have heard
nothing hut wind and seen nothing
but waves, except the merry crowd
on board, and that means more
than the ordinary. All things fair
in war, all things common on the
sea. We have every comfort and
every attention.
I am going “abroad to see our
own country”; then 1 shall know
what I ever believed, ours is the
Ix'st of all countries.
Yours r< spectfully,
11. N. Rainey.

“Dear Kir:- Only a few days

of the sale'of Preferred Stock in

Friends and customers of this

Three Hundred Thousand Dollars

“This firm lias been well and
favorably known throughout the
South for Fifty Years, and the
great success and magnitude of
the business is common know

“Judging by the correspond

sell all the stock in large lots to
promin nt and wealthy men, and
banks.
“But the sale of stock is not
the only object—T appreciate the
offers from prominent men—but
it is important for the future of
the business, to distribute the
stock in small lets among a
great many ’investors.
“The stock bears a guaranteed
dividend rate of 8 per cent —it
also beai;s a special clause, en

WINDER, - ■ GEORGIA.
launched to legalize rum selling

We have heard it said why
should we keep the tight up
against the whisky traffic in this
state now that we have prohibi
tion. I answer that we must fight
work and pray so long as the dev
il through his earthly imps is
seeking to wreck our homes and
damn the souls of our loved
ones whether that damnation
comes through the agency of a
mail order luouse or through the
open barroom within the confines
1 our owfn state. There is n 0 safe
jty for our posterity until the
! whisky traffic is driven from the
American continent, and men
and women wl\o love God and
stand for the purity of the home
and the higher life should not
rest content until that glad day
arrives.
The Devil is a wise old repro
bate, and thru his human imps
is always devising schemes to
wreck mankind. So sisters, we
must watch and work as well as
pray.
To the readers of this column
we would say that your sympa
