The vacation for school chil
dren in Winder will cease prompt
lv next Monday morning at nine
o’clock eastern time.
All jn all. the vacation just
ending has evidently been a
most pleasant one. The girls/have
had their house parties, the boys
their camping trips and the small
er ones, their various pleasures!.
So when the bell summons them
to duty next Monday there
should not be a murmur.
The present outlook is decided
ly in favo r of one of the most
brilliant openings ever * witnessed
in Winder. Last year’s enroll
ment surpassed any in the his
tory of the school, and indica
tions now' point to a possibility ot
an enrollment of more than six
hundred in the whit£ school.
The colored school will possibly
hold its own by an enrollment of
one hundred and fifty. The
school census for this year gave
Winder more than seven hun
dred and fifty children of school
age.
There has been made greater ef
fort than has ever been known in
the past to equip the school with
one of the Strongest faculties of
any school with our racing. From
all information obtainable, these
efforts have been crowned with
success. From firs/t grade teach
er to Superintendent., the faculty
is known to be strong. Some of
them Winder has tried, a few' of
the faculty next Monday morning

The county school superintend

The Alpharetia Free Press rises
to remark that “Williams, of
the Herald-Journal, is a fine par
agraphed but doesn’t know a
statesman when he sees one.”
Why, cert., we know a statesman
when w'e see one. Take a look at
one Joseph M. Brown, Esq., of
Marietta ,Ga. We also know an
Unmitigated Ass when we see
one. Take a look at one Cole
Blease, who is disgracing the gov
ernor’s chair of South Carolina.—

ly for the State Normal. After
leaving the Normal, she s’pent
three years in country schools. At
this time, she had developed into
so capable a teacher that she was
elected to a position in the
high schools' of Central South
Carolina. Her services in that
place were so eminently satisfac
tory that the local Board had
some difficulty iu getting her re
leased from the Central Board.
The remainder of the faculty is
well known to the people of Win
der and with the vaulable addi-
to the old members, it goes
withouut saying that Winder is
going to be blessed the incoming
year with an efficient faculty.
Following are the names of
teachers as they stand on faculty:
Huffaker, Sweeney, Irwin, Pharr,
Corey, Fortson, Reeved, Daniel,
Wilkinson Kilgore, Smith, Cargil.

Prof. Cooper will be in charge
of the school music next year.
This talented musician is known
to practically every man, woman
and child in Winder as one of
the most pleasant gentlemen and
decidedly one of the best music
teachers ever elected to this po
sit ion in the Winder Public
Schools. The school patrons are
urged to aid Prof. Cooper in main
taining the music department of
the Public Schools.
The Board of Education id ex
pected to be present at the open
ing next Monday morn ng and ev
ery school patron in Winder is
respectfully requested to witnesd
the opening.
Jas. M. Sims who has headed
the colored school at Winder for
the past year has resigned to ac
cept the chair of Latin and Alge
bra at Morris Brown College, At
lanta Ga. Thid is a decided com
pliment to Sims and the Board ex
presses regret in giving him up.
Ilis work here has been highly
satisfactory among the people of
his race.
W. 11. Heard of Elberton hits
been elected to succeed Sims and
will be on hand next Monday
morning to assume his new du
