Will Investigate Dickens Suitide.
Atlanta, Qa., Oct. Oth., 1913
The state prison hoard is engag
ed this week in investigating the
case of Ad Dickens, the white
convict who committed suicide
near Loganville, following, it is
said, an unusually Severe flogging
Cases have been brought lo
light in northern pententiaries
where nfen huve comm it b and s
cid) to escape the torturing ] :sh,
but no such Occurrence, has e •
been known in Georgia before,
if, indeed, this be such a one.
Dickens was a white life-term
er. A week or so ago he made
his escape from the gaug, and on
his capture, as given a flogging.
|Hig fellow convicts say that In
was cruelly whipped. The
day he was on the sick list, and
the next thing heard of him he
had hanged himself in his tent.
If it is shown by the investiga
tion that the flogging admiuis
tered Dickens was inhumanly cm
cl, it is probable that it will go
hard with tlie guards who wen
responsible for it. Only on.
side of the affair however has
been heard and the convict
camp officials will he given full
opportunity to state their side of
the case.

tax provisions to see whether the
profits of absconding cashiers
are sufficiently taxed?
