“The subject of co-operation,
in all of its many possible applica

the International Co-operative Al

and poultry through co-operative
creameries. There are now in
the Southeastern States some
highly successful organizations
of this kind, as an example of
which I may cite the Catawba
Creamery at Hickory, North Car
olina. There have' been failures
of co-operative creameries in th<
Southeast as well as in oth
er localities. Such failures
may usually) he attributed to one
of two causes. Either they
have been established in advance
of the assurance of a sufficient
supply of cream to insure their
profitable operation or they have,
had inefficient management
It is fundamentally essential to
the success of a co-operative
creamery that it shall be able to
rely upon an ample and regular
supply of cream and that it shall
have capable management. Until
these two things can be assured
it will be better for tho farmers
of any community to sell - their
cream or to convert it ’nto but
ter on thgir farms.
“The of efficient
management in co-operative -en
terprises of all kinds can not, he
too strongly insisted upon. The
success of such an organization
can not be assured by a number
of farmers getting together and
simply agreeing to co-operate,
along certain lines. The manage
ment must be placed in the hands
of a. reliable man, either a mem
ber of the association or an em-
ployee, who has business capacity

Corset Demonstration
This Week and Next
It’s w T ith pleasure that we announce that MRS.
HOPPE will be with us for two weeks demonstrating
La Victoire Corsets. We know that Mrs. Hoppe, or
the La Victoire either, needs no introduction to the
public. We have had the exclusive agency of the La
Victoire Corsets for three years, and it is marvelous
how it has grown by leaps and bounds into popularity.
We contribute this to two rersons. First, the excellent
quality of the corset, being boned entire of whalebone,
cut on the latest approved models. Second, Mrs.
Hoppe’s superiority as an expert Corsettiere has drilled
the salesladies in this department so thoroughly that
they always fit the right models; hence you are assured
of corset satisfaction when you buy a LaVictoire. A
woman is as old as she looks —be fitted in a La\ ictoire
and secure youthful lines. Again we call your atten
tion to Mrs. Hoppe and the La Victoire.

OLDEST UNIVERSITY FOUND.
Ancient Tablet* Prove On* Existed In
Nippur Temple 3200 EL C.
Philadelphia.—The discovery of the
existence of the first temple-of learning
in the world, where the first exponents
of the liturgical system congregated,
has Just been made by Professor Ste
phen Herbert Langdon, professor of
Assyrlology in Oxford, who Is now in
vestigating the Nippur collection of the
University of Pennsylvania. The tab
lets were collected in three expeditions
to Nippur, in the southern part of Baby.
lonia.
“I have ascertained from my exam
ination of the tablets that priests had
a school In the temple at Nippur as
early us 3200 B. G. and that this school
existed about a thousand years,” said
Dr. Langdon.
"To these priests Ls due the liturgical
system which spread throughout Baby
lonia and Assyria and influenced Greece
aiid Home. They were exponents of a
great university, the most Important
center of learning. I Irelieve it was the
first school of learning, and for that
reason the University of Pennsylva
nia’s collection, which discloses the
presence of this university, is of the
greatest value to scholars.
"The discovery will establish more
clearly in the minds of scholars the
fact that the origin of religious orders
existed In ancient antiquity and that a
very important religious order existed
at the temple near Nippur.”

Test Eyes of Beggar Who "Rubbered”
When Wearer of Gown Pasted.
Lima. O.—Scientific inquiry into the
normal condition of the eyes of Thomas
Kern, a begging "blind” man. has been
ordered by Mayor Shook, following the
alleged development In municipal court
that Kern found little optical impedi
ment in discerning the form of a wo
crin in a diaphanous gown at an in
terurban depot.
With a "Please Help the Blind" sign
pinned across the front of his coat,
darkened glasses over his eyes and a
tin cup resting in his hands, Kern sat
at the depot, an object of pity until,
as the woman passed, he dropped his
cup, snatched away his glasses, took a
long “rubber” and then started to re
sume his pose, when a policeman ar
rested him.
