IN TEXAS FLOOD
FAMILY PERISHES.
Dallas, Tex , Dec. 2. Central
Texas rivers today rose suddenly
as a result of heavy rains, doing
over 100,000.00 damage, washing
out tracks, delaying trains and
reaching the flood stages in the
cities of Fort Worth, Waco and
Austin. The only loss of life was
reported from Bell County, where
five persons were drowned. The
Trinity Brazos and Colorado Rivers
with their tributaries caused the
greatest damage.

Editor Observer;
As much as I dislike to enter in
to a newspaper controversy I can
not refrain from calling the atten
tion of the people of Commerce and
vicinity to two statements which
were made in the last issue of the
Commerce News, both of which are
false. The Editor through his
narrowness and prejudice makes
the positive statementthat during
my recent visit to Jackson county I
failed to go to Jefferson, and had
quite a good deal to say about it.
I did go to Jefferson and spent a
pleasant afternoon, as many good
citizens of the town will testify-
I have a numl'er of warm friends
in Jefferson as well as all over Jack
son county, all of whom I appre
ciate and am always glad to meet
with. The editor of the News
.could have easily' found out that
I did go to Jefferson and save him
self from himself, if he was so dis
posed. His statement that I said
in my first campaign that a man
should not he elected to Congress
hut two terms is likewise untrue,
and if the good people of the Ninth
( district desire to return me to Con
gress, this man surely should not
complain.
Sincerely yours,
Thos. M. Bell.
