The less brains a man has to spare
the more likely he is to lose his

A Baptist minister in Gordon

"Manage makes no change in man”
General Manager Baupree of the
Gainesville Midland was in Winder
Monday. He is pushing the work
of changing the track to standard
gauge, and says that by early spring
big moguls will la* dipping it over
the road at fifty miles an hour. A
gang is working near Winder this
morning.
We see from dispatches that a
feeler is being sent out from, Ath

be a cand date to succeed him

Is Winder Grown.
The above question is prompted
by the fact there is not a vacant
house in the city, ao far as we
know.
We have had four applications
for houses this week tj-qm parties
wishing to move here if they ean
get a' house to live in.
With tlu* price of vacant prop
erty exhorbitant and no one who
seems willing io build more hous
es for rent, the elhnelusion is nat
ural that Winder is about grown.
Less hatn thirty per cent of the
people of tlit‘ great cities live
iu their own houses, and the
town that stands hack and forces
a landsale before adding a cit
izen to her colony, will be a long
tinie throwing off her swaddling
clothes . 1 ( i • i
A dozen five and six-room, up
to-date cottages, built now, would
pay 15 per cent on the investment
There is no use to boost and
advertise our city as the Meet
town in all Georgia and urge
folks to cast their lot with us
while we are unable to house
those who are knocking at our
door
The trouble with Winder io,
some few folks have all the de
sirable building lots, and most of
the money, and they art* going to
hold on to it until they can make
a killing, so to Speak. Well the
killing is coming in the shape of
a dead town if some folks don’t
limhvr up on real estate prices or
invest some of their king green
in nice, desirable houses to rent.

When earth’s last picture is painted,
And the tubes are twisted and dried;
When the oldest colors have faded,
And the youngest critic has died,
We shall rest, and faith, we shall need it
Lie down for an aeon or two,
Till the Master of all good workmen
Shall set us to work anew!
And those that were good shall be happy';
They shall sit in a golden chair;
They shall splash at a ten-league canvas,
With brushes of comet’s hair,
They shall find real saints to draw from
Magdalene, Peter and Paul;
They shall work for an age at a sitting,
And never be tired at all.
And only the Master shall praise us,
And only the Master shall blame:
And no one shall work for money,
And no one shall work for fame;
But each for the joy of the working,
And each in his separate star,
Shall draw the Things as he sees It —
From the God of Things as they Are!
